I try and keep my peril in between 60-80 just in case I get caught out of cover and need to block a gunner. I try and save Scrier's Gaze for heavy enamels and hoards. your biggest threat is going to be stray gunners funding you out of cover, flamers denying movent so brain burst and the primary attack from the flame staff is going to be your best tools at stopping your health getting shredded. That's also why the Mk V blaze force sword is going to be another great tool at blocking that damage. If your at high peril and low stamina and find your self out of cover and in line of sight of gunners, USE YOUR SCRIER'S GAZE. It may feel like over kill but remember that Scrier's gaze remains in effect for as long as you don't reach 100% peril meaning you can stuff it down until your next major combat encounter.
your sword is an amazing all rounder against elites, specialists and hoards but gains single target specialists your primary fire from the staff is your go to. same with groups of specialists/ small elites, use the secondary attack of the staff it's great at staggering gunners and killing them on a second blast.
