Key Nodes
Always Prepared: make one melee kill, switch to shotgun, your shotgun reloads one shell
Survivalist: Shotgun gets one shell back for every coherency Elite/Specialist kill
Smoke Grenade: mass stagger, aggro dump, LoS block, revives, objectives. useful on both hordes and groups of ranges units. lets you charge in and start your combos while they're coughing. +refresh, +chance to refill on coherency Elite/Specialist kill. Grenade Tinkerer doubles the uptime of each grenade.
Infiltrator: Damage Boost, threat dump, "Oh Shit" button, gap closer, guarantees revives and objectives, AoE suppression tool...you name it, this does it. 2 charges means more uptime but longer cooldown, but Tactical Awareness helps with that.
Playstyle
The schtick here is it only takes one melee kill to give you a shot loaded back in your shotgun, but that doesn't happen until you switch to the shotgun. So you're charged blade swiping at hordes and, whenever you have the chance, youre dodging back, hotswapping to the shotgun, blasting the horde point blank, then hotswapping back to melee. Slash, Dash, Blast. Rinse and repeat. Terrifying Barrage on shotgun suppresses everyone near you when you're doing this, shutting down Reapers and Gunners who might be near you holding the trigger down.
Getting 3 melee kills and then switching to the shotgun guarantees a crit, thanks to Weapons Specialist. Weapons Specialist procs Man-Stopper to cleave/stagger entire hordes with one blast.
You have smoke grenades to make groups easier to fight or block LoS. You have Infiltrator to give yourself boosts, get out of trouble or help the team.
Notes
Havoc 40 viable? Hell no. Sorry, this build is only for a measly 99% of the player base.
Don't need reload perks/traits because you're hardly ever manually reloading
Opening Salvo DOES NOT work with Always Prepared because Always Prepared does not count as a "reload." The way the game tracks whether Opening Salvo is happening or not is if you are firing the first ~20% of a full magazine.
