The idea behind this build is to maximize Smite uptime by taking any talents that reduce Peril Generation. The two 2x -5% Peril Generation Nodes and Inner Tranquility (-6% Peril Generation per Warp Charge) will net you -46% Peril Generation at 6 Warp Charges. If you take hold of a horde, Battle Meditation will kick in as things die and reduce your current peril by 10% on every enemy death. The end result is the best crowd control in the game. You can use Venting Shriek for massive damage via Creeping Flames or just to keep the Smite party going, but keep in mind that it will wipe your Warp Charge your Inner Tranquility bonus so your next Smite won't last as long. 

 

Surge Staff is your bread and butter, but as soon as things start getting spicy, swap to Smite and have fun holding back everything short of a Monstrosity. 

 

Also, if a friend goes down, let your team know you are Smiting and they are free to rescue.
