Description
I originally threw this build together as a joke and then sort of fell in love with it so here's a non-Shroudfield knife Zealot build for anyone who's gotten bored of skulking around instead of running the enemies of the Emperor down and filling them with a great many holes.
The Flechette/Scattershot Kantrael shotgun really can't be called anything but the lynchpin of this build. The knife brings mobility, exceptional dodges, brutal weakspot hits and is also my favorite weapon in the game bar none, but this shotgun is the real star of this show. Mixed hordes are food for this fire-slinging monster of a gun, with infinite cleave and two different DoTs making it a powerhouse at holding any kind of choke point. After I used a measly two shells to kill four or five Scab Ragers out of a crowd of fodder, I knew it was meant to be. Also Chastise makes it completely ignore armor so Crushers go down in like three good shots, especially after dodging to tighten up your accuracy with Dance of Death.
The Combat Blade is no slouch either, with this build opting for Flesh Tearer over Lacerate to avoid the obvious antisynergy with Mercy Killer. Fury brings plenty of crit anyway, and your shotgun can also apply bleed to hard targets before you close in for the coup de grâce with your knife. I haven't tested with the new knife model yet but I get the feeling the Mk III will remain my choice for its strong headshot capabilities. It similarly plays well with Chastise, honestly far better than I would've expected, and especially so if you've already inflicted bleeding with your Kantrael before closing the gap.
Chastise's Toughness recovery, combined with your toughness recovery from dodging, your damage reduction from Enduring Faith, and the health refund from Restoring Faith, also leaves the build in a surprisingly robust spot for survivability and sustain, meaning you're not some cocky, glass-jawed speedster who folds to a single unlucky spawn while you're ahead of your team to soften up the next engagement for them
Immolation grenades are good. They stack with Kantrael fire (I think) and are just generally good area denial and are great for securing revives. I don't really have a lot more to say on them. If you wanna go for Blades of Faith you can but the crowd control from the fire feels a bit too valuable for difficult situations for me to give up.
Felt like writing up a guide because this build got me honest-to-Emperor addicted to using this shotgun. I was already a knife goblin but this build brought everything together in a surprisingly survivable, versatile package deal that has been nothing short of a power trip to play. The knife's godlike dodges paired with high crit and incredible Fury uptime mean you're able to dance around the battlefield and cut a swath through crowds with versatile knife lights and flaming shells while also recharging Chastise at unreasonable speeds thanks to the build's increased attack speed with the already absurdly fast Combat Blade. Chastitse's own attack speed buff only furthers this, letting you chain them into each other and sometimes even recharging the ability before its own buff has worn off, giving you unparalleled battlefield mobility.
It bears mentioning that it might also be worth swinging the tree to the left if you don't find yourself out of coherency often, instead taking the toughness DR and getting access to crit/weakspot damage on dodge, Holy Revenant, and some extra flex points. Personally I just really appreciate Loner for the selfish but lifesaving toughness regen while alone dealing with enemies in cover or while trying to clutch. Thy Wrath Be Swift is also a lifesaver in rough situations,
