Overview

You are a tank and a team player. Stay with the team and get them out of rough spots. Control the battlefield and create space for your team.

Playstyle

Stay within coherency as much as possible and keep bonkin' enemies in the head.

When you are swarmed, start using the Crusher special to clear space for your team mates.
Alternate between staggering and killing enemies.

The priority should be to keep crushers and maulers permanently occupied by staggering them with the Crusher special and then hitting them with Heavy 1 to do damage.

When it gets too intensive in melee, pull out Chorus of Spiritual Force and move towards Gunners and shooters to keep them pinned, or just help out wherever your team mates are having problems.

When you are faced with lots of shooters, spread out in smaller groups, use the shotgun to snipe them one by one or stagger them to get close enough for bonkin. If you see a horde incoming, load the shotgun special (flame slug) and apply fire to big groups of enemies.

Being damaged is only a bonus for you and you should be quite allright in melee as long as you keep shooters at bay. That being said, never turn down a medpac or healing station :)...

The real threat is getting sniped or gunned down, since you will be quite slow.

Tactics

  • Bosses: Stay with the team. If there are additional enemies, use Chorus immediately to clear some space and also to stagger the boss (works on the first and last pulse). Keep pulsing until you get the toughness buff and then start bonking with Heavy 1 if possible.
  • Carapace: Stagger using the Crusher special attack. Follow up with Heavy attacks.
  • Specials: Stagger and kill them using the shotgun if you can't melee them.
  • Dregs and Scab: Shoot them if necessary to get close, but keep ammo in reserve for sniping specials.
  • Horde: Keep swinging with the crusher and clear out space using the Crusher special attack.

Curios

2x 1 Wound + 1x Tougness Curios.

Max out resistance to gunners and then fill in with the specials you are most allergic to.

I like to add +ability cooldown reduction so that I can always have Chorus ready.

Talents

Shield of Contempt and Holy Cause creates a beatiful bubble of damage reduction for you to live in.

Beacon of Purity makes sure that the wounds we have left are not corrupted (thereby missing the point of Martyrdom)

Bleed for the Emperor and Restoring Faith adds another layer of safety.

Martyrdom is extremely potent and will give you lots of extra damage and toughness while buffing you passively.

|| Options ||

I like Fortitude in Fellowship but it can be switched out for Backstabber or Maniac if you want more damage. I like Backstabber because enemies are usually lying flat down after staggering them with the Crusher special and exposing their weak spots.

Immolation Grenade can be switched for Stunstorm Grenade (I like Immolation because of the pre-emptive strike option it provides).

Holy Cause can be switched for Ecclesiarch's Call (toughness damage reduction or +damage, personal preference).

|| Cons ||

The Emperors Bullets doesn't really do anything when you are using your shotgun since you are usually not emptying a mag into one ranged enemy, instead you will do careful target selection. An option would be to switch out the shotgun to an autogun or autopistol where that is more likely to happen.

Blessings

Crusher: Skullcrusher and Thunderstrike will synergize nicely with what we want to achieve here.

Kantrael Combat Shotgun: No Respite can work nicely in your favour by providing both ranged and melee stagger. Scattershot is ideal to use on groups of incoming hordes (or melee) by loading the special slug (fire) and then getting loads of +crit% for melee attacks.
