Become the unparalleled support sniper for your team. With this build, you'll be taking down high-priority targets before they know what hit them. Suppress squads of ranged heretics while picking them off and being on overwatch. Two important things to remember while using this build:
"The rifle is the first weapon you learn how to use, because it lets you keep your distance from the heretic."
Your main weapon will be the las-rifle, the Mk III version because it has the most damaging charged shot out of all of them, however, it does consume the most ammo, up to 9 charges per max charge. Reload often, and make sure to account for the equip animation. Save it for large groups of elites and patrols, and use your combat ability as well as tagging to keep up the pressure and prevent them from gunning you and your team down. Your priority should be Gunners and Snipers, followed by close-range specials and elites, like Trappers and Shotgunners. Aiming for the head will proc Falter, which can buy you some precious seconds in a firefight. And don't worry about stealing kills from the Zealot, the Covering Fire passive will grant them toughness and a damage buff.
"The closer you get to being a pro, the closer you can get to the heretic. The knife, for example, is the last thing you learn."
The combat knife will be your emergency weapon for when you're low on ammo or when the enemy gets too close. Light attacks are not damaging enough to rely on, so you'll be using the heavy chain attacks. The first two heavy attacks are wide horizontal slashes, good for dealing with hordes, while the third is a downward strike, good at proccing Executor. The special into a light attack can work in a pinch, which staggers and stabs at head height. To maximize damage, dodge to the left or right when doing the heavy attacks to hit more enemies.
As for positioning and passives, you will be mostly in the backline, providing support to your melee teammates. However, make sure to not be left behind, or worse, getting caught by a special because you were too focused on the horde in front of you. Besides sound cues, you can tell if an enemy is within 8m of you, since the icon for the Kill Zone passive will darken and not give you the damage buff. Additionally, having Determined will allow you to keep your aim steady and tank a few ranged shots, more so with Iron Will.
Lastly, grenades, stimms, and teammates. Your smoke grenades, dealing no damage, are used in situations where you're being pinned down by Gunners and Snipers, or when those Shotgunners get a little too close. The smoke will have them fire at the last known spot you were in, and those in the cloud will reposition themselves, as well as Snipers. I suggest laying it down a little ahead of you, and between solid cover. As for stimms, health is always good, but combat is great for your combat ability, but make sure to use it before activating it. Finally, your teammates should have at least one melee-oriented build, a mid-range build, and a tank.
Now get out there and snipe some heretics!
