Never use Assail with Scrier's Gaze active. Use Assail when clearing roaming mobs, especially ranged ones. Scrier's Gaze + sword for hordes. Scrier's Gaze + gun for clearing lots of specials. Use heavy sword attacks at Mauler and Crusher faces to deal with them quickly. Scrier's Gaze + gun + shooting in weakspot to deal a lot of boss damage quickly. 

 

As a psyker, you're quite squishy but this build is excellent all-rounder and good use of Scrier's Gaze and Assail can make your very survivable. The Mk4 saber is my favourite melee weapon in the game right now. Take one stamina curio you're very depleted on stamina otherwise which makes emergency blocking or reviving difficult.
