Guide:
The aim of this guide is to give you some insight and pointers in how this build worked for me. Take the build, read the guide, try it out and then adjust to taste and play style. It's what I do.
This is primarily a Ranged-Support build for the Veteran class.
This is not a long-range support build, I designed and used this build mainly in the close-medium ranges so you can stay in coherency and support your team mates. I played this build as the "Second Line Fire Support", while my teammates would be brawling with a horde, I would be further back pinging and taking out those specials and disablers. This where the strength of the build lies.
You can do close combat in a pinch but it is not your area of strength, you should be able to comfortably deal with hordes but will need to fall back from packs of specials.
I completed these specific penances with this build.
Penances:
Kill Shot Ready:
Build up your 10 stacks of Marksman's focus and then hip-fire and mag dump the Columnus into a horde. It can be a little unnerving standing still, emptying your clip into a horde but you can wear the chip damage. The trick I found was to shot the gun in small bursts of fire, with practice I was able to work out how long I needed to "burst" to kill most enemies.
Adept Assassin:
Pop that special and farm the Gunners. That's the best way I've found to do it. It takes time. I'm still working through mine.
Curios:
I went with 2x Toughness and 1 Stamina. I'd chase the +2 or if you can +3 Stamina curio because I really feel it gives the Veteran a valuable and much needed boost in this area. My preference is Toughness Curios over Health for the Veteran, the Toughness Curios are really helpful in regardless to dealing with the chip damage. Toughness also regenerates as to where your Health does not.
The two essential perks I feel are:
Damage Resistance to Gunners - as this covers a wide range of enemies in the game.
Toughness Regeneration Speed - helps regen your overall toughness faster.
The rest of the slot are pretty flexible and can be tweaked to taste and playstyle. I went with buffing my toughness further and putting a little bit of love into my Stamina and Sprinting.
Munitorum Mk III Power Sword:
The Heavy Attack patterns are your best friend here. Power up the sword and chop heads off. I opted to use the Blessings Power Cycler for the extra hits and Slaughter as I tend to only use the heavy attacks with the sword. I like the swing arc and watching all the heads of the enemy go flying!! :)
Columnus Mk V Infantry Autogun:
I love this gun!! You can line up the sight and tap fire to take out enemies at a distance or hip-fire and mag dump the entire clip into some big, armored heretic who comes after your head with an axe. I've simply found this gun to be the most flexible with my style of play in Darktide. My preference is close-medium supporting fire, so I built the blessings around that. Dum-Dum and Deathspitter are the ones that work beautifully for me.
Key Talents:
Shredder Frag Grenade vs Krak Grenade
Honestly I flip-flop between the two. Frag is more versitile. Krak is more destructive. Frag can give you breathing room in a fight. Krak blows up the big boys. Tweak to taste.
Survivilist:
Gives you more ammo in a pinch and works with the build better than the other talents.
Executioners Stance:
We are a ranged-support build. I chose to highlight human-sized enemies because their are simply more of them than Ogryns. Highlighting Specials and Elite enemies are a must, it helps you and it helps your team.
Marksmen Focus:
Completes the build. Camoflauge gives us more stacks and Tunnel Vision give us toughnesss for those stacks.
Conclusion:
Enjoy the build. Try it out. I'll be back later to tidy up grammar and such in the future.
