Description
Get stuck in!
The veteran Trench Raider is designed to be an aggressive class that has you up in enemies faces and carving out whole swathes in single shots.
WEAPONS
1. The Munitorum Sapper Shovel has a devastating horizontal sweep that, combined with the Thrust perk, allows for solid crowd control. Trench Fighter gives you quicker swings which makes you a force to be reckoned with in trash/mixed hordes. You'll chew through pox walkers while staggering most elites. It's special attack isn't as debilitating as some of the other shovels, but it's enough to poke a Mauler to death if you need it.
2. The Double Barrel is, admittedly, a bit gimmicky, but you can unload an extremely hard hitting double bore blast that will obliterate things like Maniacs up close. This shotgun runs Man-Stopper which gives you cleave on crit (and also ranged stagger in case you need to broadside something far off like a Gunner to stagger it) and either Speedload for faster reloads or Flechette, which gives you a bit more to work with against carapace armored or unyielding enemies.
3. Krak grenades with Stockpile round out your offensive offerings so you can take care of Crushers or Bulwarks fairly easily.
ABILITIES AND KEYSTONES
Voice of Command is there to give you some breathing room if you get swarmed, and Close Quarters Killzone piggy backs off that to give you a decent CQC boost if you need to lay out an Elite real quick. Survivalist is there to pad your ammo count a little since shotguns run a little low. Bring it Down is there to try and give you a little something extra when dealing with the big boys since this isn't a boss focused build.
The Keystone talent will be Focus Target + Target Down! The idea here is to constantly call out specials in hordes and build toughness and stamina for you allies in coherencey to keep you in the fight longer.
WEAKNESSES
There are two areas where this class is a little lacking and that is: ranged (obviously) combat and boss killing. Anything far off is gonna be a tough sell since the Double Barrel lacks a special attack a la the slug, but you can do some stagger damage to at least break salvo if needed. Running Flechette + 25% Unyielding damage can buff the shotgun a bit in boss fights, but you won't be soloing Nurgle Beasts. Bring it Down (mentioned above) helps a bit here, as well.
