Description
This is a melee psyker build. Play it like a zealot, and run around with your greatsword out 90% of the time. Your main ranged weapon is Assail. See a horde? Assail. Gunners? Assail. Group of maulers/ragers? Believe it or not, Assail! Spam Assail whenever you can without blowing up. It staggers tough melee enemies like ragers and maulers, which makes them easier to take out with the greatsword (or just continue spamming assail to kill them). The only exception to this is crushers/bulwarks/bosses. You can kill lone crushers/bosses with your greatsword, and groups of bulwarks/crushers with the voidblast staff (its very nice because a fully charged attack knocks them all over and inflicts brittleness). The voidblast staff isn't mandatory, you can also use something else like voidstrike staff, bolt pistol, or the revolver (basically anything that can deal with crushers quickly).
Because this build includes virtually all but one toughness nodes, you actually are as tanky as some zealots and can afford to play like one. This build is built around toughness regeneration, here are some tips to stay alive:
- Kill blue highlighted enemies to recover 25% toughness from Disrupt Destiny and increase your damage.
- Kill enemies with staff or assail to recover ~10% toughness (7.5% on warp attack kill + 2.5% from generating peril).
- Stand in your bubble to regenerate 10% toughness per second. Throw down the bubble if your team is taking lots of ranged fire... or if you just need some extra toughness and are fighting a boss. Worth noting that the bubble not only blocks projectiles... it destroys them outright. So you can put the bubble on a group of ranged enemies to completely shut them down. It also blocks trapper nets, so if you see a trapper you can just stand in your bubble instead of dodging if you want.
- Hitting more than 3 enemies at a time with your greatsword regenerates 15% toughness (you're basically invulnerable while using your greatsword against a horde as long as a crusher/mauler/trapper/dog doesn't get you).
- Kinetic Deflection + the Deflector blessing on your greatsword means you have essentially infinite ability to block & push. You can even block ranged shots!
A somewhat controversial choice is picking up Crystalline Will and a +1 Wound curio, but I personally think this is nice just as a safety net: sometimes I get excited and blow myself up. You will too. This prevents it from being a run-ender (and I also don't like the weird sepia filter when you have one wound remaining).
