Playstyle

Focusing on the psyker's notable mobility, high single-target damage, broken crit chance and dome shield support, this versatile Auric Maelstrom build is designed to keep you alive in every pinch without sacrificing the ability to kill priority targets and to keep your team alive all at once without interrupting the flow of combat. Every quirk and aspect of this build is meant to be constantly used and swapped between, rewarding sweaty spark 'ead gameplay while also affording breathing room to re-strategize when things go south.

 

Weapons/Curios

Since we're not using Scrier's Gaze, damage and speed are perfectly compensated for by the Deimos Blaze Force Sword. The Light 1 + Heavy 2 combo (when applied to a weakspot) can one-shot Mutants, send Crushers/Bulwarks to the ground, stagger both Rager variants, and deal massive single-target damage. Its block is splendid, but the push amazes with its insane range and is capable of breaking a Bulwark's guard. When pairing this weapon's stagger and push mechanics with the bubble shield, damage is a lot less likely to find its way through your toughness. The Precognition weapon blessing alone is enough to trivialize maulers and crushers, so the second blessing is up to preference (even Blazing Spirit, if you REALLY want it).

 

The particular mark of Recon Lasgun is the obvious choice, due to its utilitarian ammo:damage output ratio and how the high rate of fire perfectly complements the high base critical hit chance of the class. Blessings/Perks remain up to personal preference, but tapping gunners for DoT kills with Infernus can make for efficient ammo usage when not in a dire situation. Monstrosities also appreciate a constant warmth throughout their stay in Tertium, as the A/C no longer works around here.

 

With the lack of the Empathic Evasion talent, negating gunner damage on your Curios can be of great importance if you tend make mistakes or jump on accident during a dodge chain. The combat ability regeneration perk can NEVER be sacrificed (I'm sure I don't have to explain why).

 

Talent Tree

Pre-Keystone Nodes and Assail

Perilous Combustion is your failsafe for if you end up alone with 4 Crushers, a few Maulers and 2.8 trillion Ragers. The DoT from the applied Soulblaze on Elite/Specialist kill acts as your imaginary teammate who slowly nips at the heretics' health bars as you stave them off with the stagger and push of the Deimos. [ This is the only use of Soulblaze on this build, so other relevant perks are ignored. ] The other perk of this talent is that ranged enemy packs can be melted away with your gun/blitz while you focus on either support or dealing with more immediate threats. With the psyker's base crit chance being the highest of any class (7.5%) it would be silly to neglect talents that synergize with it. This makes talents such as Mettle a cornerstone of any build centered around criticals. When coupled with the insane rate of fire on the Recon Lasgun, you will be both impervious and intangible due to the movement speed bonus stacks. With this, we can use Perfect Timing as a stepping stone to get to Assail, which will be vital to gameplay at all times.

 

Assail is like a Swiss Army Knife, and it can be enhanced with Quick Shards and other talents in order to constantly be receiving general gameplay benefits. Soulstealer turns this blitz into a pocket vampire spell, which can be proc'd more easily with the 15% warp damage bonus from Perfect Timing, which in turn will be more likely to proc because of how this build capitalizes on the psyker's base critical hit chance. On top of reaping the benefits of these readily accessible early nodes, your blitz and its enhancement will help to keep your peril high so that Warp Splitting, One With the Warp, and Warp Rider will always be in optimal effect. Riding high peril with Assail and these talents is extremely important because:

  • Lightning Speed provides a significant DPS increase with its +10% melee attack speed.
  • The number of targets Assail can pierce increases alongside your melee weapon's horde-clear efficiency.
  • Toughness damage reduction will never be below 10%, with critical peril buffing it up to a maximum of 33%.
  • All base damage receives an everlasting increase up to +20%.

The base damage increase of Warp Rider, in tandem with your sword's Precognition blessing, the constant +25% damage to warp and non-warp attacks from Malefic Momentum and Empyrean Empowerment/Warp Battery's +24% base damage, the psyker becomes a killing machine.

Keystone, Ability and Support Highlights

The second best support function of the psyker class is its Telekine Dome/Sanctuary talents (we'll rely on this and pure skill instead of Empathic Evasion). Even if the team doesn't need to be protected during a holdout, in the middle of a gadget/machine operation, or as everyone pushes toward an objective, Sanctuary's toughness regen and toughness damage reduction upon dissipation bring much-appreciated assistance to the whole team. Its usefulness is also applicable to rescues/revives and containing packs of ornery ranged enemies who need a timeout (take that, Reaper pack). The Seer's Presence aura (best node in the game btw) and Warp Siphon keystone ensure that your bubble stays up and your bubble buddies get more chances to set off their own cracked abilities. And, since you both want to kill the most elites/specialists and will likely be doing so anyway, In Fire Reborn and Psychic Vampire will not be necessary. Their points are much better applied elsewhere for maximum damage output.

 

Your ammo consumption as a gun psyker is already an unnecessary hindrance to the other classes who HAVE to use bullets, so Assail/Quick Shards helps with that amongst its other advantages. Here's how you can best utilize that blitz on Auric Maelstrom: 

  • Keep your peril high in combat to proc your talents, since we didn't take Scrier's Gaze.
  • Swift Sniper/Poxhound pack neutralization.
  • Stagger ranged enemies to safely close in for a melee slaughter (doubles as extra compensation for not taking Empathic Evasion).
  • Quick swapping allows for punctual delivery of assistance to nearby teammates, simultaneously activating various buffs and killing/staggering multiple enemies without sacrificing survivability.
  • Follows fleeing disablers around corners.
  • Cover is less effective against assail than guns/staff primaries.
  • If using black tourmaline crystals for Assail, you can protect your aura from negative vibes and manifest your bliss, queen! Slay!

 

(edit: I forgot to mention that I opted out of Souldrinker for the Critical Chance Boost node right below Sanctuary and Scrier's Gaze because I would rather have the constant buff than the circumstantial buff. Plus, this isn't a Soulblaze build.)
