"This garden of mine gives me a real sense of serenity. I'M SERENE AS SHIT RIGHT NOW!"

Who is the Slab King?! Are you out of your gyatdayum mind, Slab?

This is a build that I made, in an attempt to be the most faithful recreation of Brick, The Slab King from Borderlands, all while being actually combat effective. To be true to Brick's mentality, this is a melee-centric build. However, I sacrificed Heavy Attack perks/talents to be more consistent with reliable normal/light attacks. I also included minor ranged buffs for any target that happens to be out of reach. Ranged is NOT the primary focus here. You're Brick, not Chris Kyle. (RIP to Kyle though)

THE BREAKDOWN

"I ain't carrying you! So you betta bring yo ass on!": +100% Coherency Toughness Regeneration. Slabs are stronger together!

"Gimme something else to kill!": +30% Damage against Bulwarks, Crushers, Plague Ogryns and Reapers. Also receive +30% Damage Reduction against the same. Kill them Slab wannabes!

"Beatdown!": Replenish 5% Toughness after hitting a single Enemy with a Melee Attack. Increased to 15% Toughness if it is a Heavy Attack.

"Gimme somethin' to hit!": Replenish 5% Toughness after hitting multiple Enemies with a single Melee Attack. This is increased to 15% on Heavy Melee Attack.

"MORE! BLOOD!": For each Enemy you hit during the same Melee Attack, gain +3% Damage on your next Melee Attack.

"C'mon, fight me!": +50 Toughness, +15% Toughness Damage Reduction. +10% Damage Resistance on Elite Kill or Specialist Kill for 5s.

"Bringin' the pain!": Throw a box of grenades with great strength and enthusiasm to deal high Damage to a Single Enemy. Hitting an Enemy causes the box to break open, releasing 9 grenades around the target.

"Never look at my fist, bitch!": Enemies damaged by your Melee Attacks take +10% more Damage for 5s.

"What'd you think was gonna happen?": +15% Damage for 5s after a Successful Dodge, or being Hit by an Attack.

"You better run!": Charge forward with great force, knocking back Enemies and Staggering them. Gain +25% Attack Speed and +25% Movement Speed for 5s. Charge is stopped on collision with Monstrosities, and an increased charge distance of 100%. 30s Cooldown. (Indomitable)

"Need some time to find yo' teeth?": Replenish +10% Toughness per Enemy Hit with Indomitable.

"Yeah! Let's dance!": For each Enemy hit by Indomitable you gain a Stack of Trample. Trample increases Base Damage by +2.5% for 10s. Max Stacks 20.

"Crushed!": +5% Rending (Anti armor potential)

"Damn, I'm good!": +10% Melee Weakspot Strength

"I'm gonna kick yo ass, let's go!": +25% Impact bonus on Melee Attacks. Staggering an enemy with a Melee Attack replenishes 5% Stamina. 0.75s Cooldown.

"That's what I want!": Increase your ammo reserve by +25%.

"Wanna tear somethin' up, Slab?": +10% Melee Attack Damage for you and Allies in Coherency.

"Feel it!": +10% Ranged Damage. +10% passive base melee damage.

"Show me some blood! Hahahahahaha!": Inflict +1 Stacks of Bleed on Melee Hit. Increased to +4 on Heavy Melee Hit. +5% Damage Resistance per Bleeding Enemy in Melee range. Stacks 6 times.+3% Ranged Damage on Melee Kill. Lasts 10s. Max Stacks 5.

"Smashed!": +10% Rending (Anti armor potential) for 10s on Elite Kill.

"Punch time!": +3% Melee Damage for 7.5s on Melee Attack Hit. Stacks 8 times. Gain 2 Stacks on Heavy Attack Hit. (Heavy Hitter)

"You wanna take me on?": Heavy Hitter also grants +15% Toughness replenished from Melee Kills for each stack.

"My turn!": +3% Ranged Damage on Melee Kill. Lasts 10s. Max Stacks 5.

"Hey, Slab. Got somethin' for ya." (BACKGROUND):

Brick is originally from the planet Menoetius and is one of the original four Vault Hunters who sought to uncover the Vault hidden on Pandora. In addition, Brick is one of the founding members of the Crimson Raiders. However, Roland had expelled Brick from their base of Sanctuary after his brutal killing of Shep Sanders, who had disclosed New Haven's location to Hyperion, which led to its destruction by Handsome Jack's forces. Later on, Brick decided to become a bandit, after Hyperion began treating him as such. He then formed the Slab gang. With himself as the leader, Brick became known to most of Pandora as the "Slab King." The source of Brick’s size and strength is baffling considering his mother and father are both slightly under five feet tall. Depending on the day, he attributes his physique to either his daily vitamin consumption or the lucky paw of his beloved dog Priscilla that he wears around his neck. Regardless of the cause of his strength, he continues to bring his fists to a gun fight and still manages to come out on top. His true reason for being on Pandora is that his sister is missing, and he wants to find her, even persisting throughout years of searching.

BRICK'S INVOLVEMENT WITH BORDERLANDS:
After gaining the Claptrap upgrades, Roland tells the Vault Hunters to go to Thousand Cuts to gain "The Slab King's" assistance. When Brick's bandits reveal the Vault Hunters aren't from Hyperion, he decides to initiate them into his gang. After passing his test (which consisted of surviving waves of attack from Brick's own bandits), he welcomes them into the gang and agrees to assist them with the Hyperion Bunker. At that moment, Brick's territory is attacked by Hyperion forces, and Brick fights with the Vault Hunters to repel the attack. Afterwards, he returns to Sanctuary, where he will then give out side missions.

During the assault on the new Vault Hyperion discovered, Mordecai commands a captured barge carrying Brick. Both of them help the Vault Hunters through the first gauntlet of Hero's Path, until the barge is targeted by a Moon Blitz. Brick jumps back into the barge, which is then struck by the Blitz and crashes into the lava. However, the two survive the crash and make it to the Vault, and witness the activation of the map showing the locations of the many other Vaults scattered throughout the galaxy.

In Episode 3 of Tales from the Borderlands, Brick and Mordecai are hired by the gang lord Vallory to apprehend Athena, who was once allied with Handsome Jack. The two of them duel against Fiona and Athena, which resulted in Fiona shooting him in the foot. They might have been killed had Vallory not intervened. After knocking Athena out with a rocket launcher, the two Vault Hunters then take her back to Sanctuary.

In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Brick is seen in the introduction alongside Mordecai limping away after Lilith noted how it took the both of them to capture Athena. In the final scene, Brick raises his objections, along with Mordecai about executing Athena to Lilith. Despite this, Lilith went ahead and ordered the Crimson Raider soldiers to execute Athena, only for the bullets to be stopped by The Watcher.

In Borderlands 3, during the mission Hammerlocked Brick, Mordecai, Tiny Tina, and the Vault Hunter are hired by Wainwright Jakobs to rescue Sir Hammerlock. Brick's callsign during this mission is Meatslab.

ORIGINAL PLAYSTYLE:
Brick's Action Skill is a Berserk mode in which the screen goes red, he holsters his weapon and proceeds to attack with his fists. During this time, Brick also gains resistance to all damage and his health will regenerate at a rapid rate as he beats down enemies. Brick's berserk mode is controlled with the analog sticks and by using the 'aim' button for a powerful but slower left hook and the 'shoot' button for a quicker but weaker right jab. His Berserk mode is upgradable via the skill tree. Several of his class mods are also dedicated toward improving effectiveness of Berserk, and can make it a viable primary method of combat.

Brick is an optimal character for close combat. He is well equipped to use shotguns and explosives, and is also a very potent brawler with his fists when he slips into a berserker rage. Some say he is best played as a tank or brawler, as he has talents that reinforce him to withstand harm, empower his brawling capabilities and aid any explosive weaponry that he might use. His default melee weapon is a pipe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRIVIA:
All of Brick's Tier 4 skills refer to movies:

  • Master Blaster comes from a character of that name in the movie, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
  • Bloodsport recognises the martial arts, action movie, Bloodsport.
  • Unbreakable is the title of a movie starring Bruce Willis.

Pictured on "Wanted" posters in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, Brick has a higher bounty on his head, at $9,999,999.99, than the others, who are targeted for $1,000,000.00. His listed crime is "Murder and Dismemberment of anything that moves". This bounty would later be topped by Gaige at $820 billion, and sharing a distinction with Salvador's in that it ends in 99 cents.

  • In Borderlands 2, Handsome Jack raises Brick's bounty in a radio broadcast to $8,000,000,000.
  • According to the intro scene where Marcus Kincaid is telling the story of the vault, Brick had a dog named Priscilla.
  • The letters "TCB", with a lightning bolt, are emblazoned on Brick's belt buckle. This was a signature of Elvis Presley that meant "taking care of business, in a flash". In Borderlands 2, the "TCB" emblem is missing from Brick's belt buckle.
  • In Borderlands 2, it is revealed that Brick got a second dog called Dusty after the defeat of The Destroyer but lost her during the Hyperion attack on New Haven. The Sheriff of Lynchwood, Nisha, reveals that she was the one who killed her by breaking her neck in front of Brick, making him cry.

In Borderlands 2, Brick wears two dog's paws around his neck, representing Priscilla and Dusty respectively.

  • As of Borderlands 3, he wears a third dog paw representing Tahoe.
  • In Borderlands 2, Brick has apparently obtained Sledge's Hammer and carries it on his back. If he is unable to engage a target in melee, he will throw the hammer.
  • Brick is the second tallest Vault Hunter, after Amon.

Borderlands 2:

Reminder

  • I got some new missions for ya, Slab! Come find me in Sanctuary!

New mission available

  • Slab! Got a new mission for ya.
  • Wanna tear somethin' up, Slab?
  • Hey. Got a mission.
  • Hey, Slab. Got somethin' for ya.
  • Got a job.
  • Got a mission if you're up for it.

No new missions

  • Got nothin'.
  • Nothin' for ya, Slab.
  • Can't think of anything I want dead right now. I'm sure I'll think of somethin', though.
  • Sorry. No jobs.
  • No jobs, Slab.
  • Got nothin'.

During an active mission

  • Did you shoot/eviscerate those things I asked you to?
  • Whatcha been up to?
  • Hey, Slab! Still workin' on that job?
  • Still workin' on that?
  • How's the quest going?
  • How you doin'?
  • How you holdin' up? You alright?

Mission being turn in

  • Done with that, huh? Good.
  • Good job.
  • You did good.
  • Talk to me, Slab.
  • And this is why you're the only Slab I don't wanna kill.
  • Hell of a job out there.

While idle

  • Got some advice. If you're real low on health or shields, let somebody kill ya, then second wind off 'em. Once you're on your feet, you'll be in better shape than before.
  • Of all my Slabs, I gotta say, you're the least insane. Wish I coulda formed an army to fight Jack that didn't consist of lunatics and idiots, but hey. You play the cards you're dealt. Most of my cards just happen to have blood on 'em.
  • You punched anything lately?
  • It's weird -- I remember a time when Roland wouldn't have let me within a hundred miles of Sanctuary. Times must be real tough.
  • This planet's gonna be a lot better with Jack gone. You wait and see.
  • Man, I haven't been to Sanctuary since Roland kicked my ass out a few years back. It's lookin' nice. From where we're standin', you can see the spot where I ripped that snitch in half. Looks like they did a pretty good job cleaning' up the blood.
  • Man, you shoulda been here when General Knoxx was around. His armory was so full of good stuff, heh-heh -- I still have dreams about it. When I'm not having nightmares about The Sheriff strangling my dog, anyway.
  • You know, I gotta come up with a title for you -- a rank, maybe. Somethin' to differentiate you from the other Slabs. How about... Super-Badass? Or, no, wait... Lord of Asskickery? I dunno. Somethin'll come to me.
  • You're doin' a badass job out there, Slab. Proud to have you on our side.

Unrelated mumblings

  • Ha!
  • Damn damn damn.
  • Ah, well.
  • Yeech.
  • Goddammit.
  • Hell.

Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary:

Idle

Some of the idle chats are mission related and can't be heard again once the mission in question is completed.

  • My little buddy's gotta stay strong. We AIN'T gonna let him down. Right, Vault Hunter?
  • You know what's even better than punchin' stuff? Punchin' stuff for a good cause! Now let's save Mordecai!
  • I got a nice spot picked out for my community garden. It's gon' be lovely as hell.
  • I hear there's gonna be an antidote for Mordecai! Whatchu standing around for? Go get it!
  • Hope we can trust this Cassius guy. Seems kinda weird. And science-y. Which is just another way to say weird.
  • Wish I could go with you and punch the hell out of those New Pandora guys, but I gotta keep an eye on Mordecai.
  • Gotta hand it to Cassius. This may all be his fault, but he did everything he could to make it right.
  • You get up there and punch Hector right in his... cloaca! Is that a plant thing?
  • This garden of mine gives me a real sense of serenity. I'M SERENE AS SHIT RIGHT NOW!
  • Yo, Slab. Lilith said you pruned that Hector dude good! Got any gardening tips? My anemones have a bad attitude.
  • Tina's been bugging me to take her off-world. I guess I could get away from Pandora for a little while. I figure, there's a whole universe out there full of things I haven't punched!
  • Bummer about Sanctuary. Had to be done though.
  • Never really saw myself as a father figure, but Tina really looks up to me. It's actually kinda badass! Feelings are like a workout for your heart. I guess cardio's good, too.
  • Tina and Mordecai are always fightin', but I know they got each other's backs when it counts.

And if you'd like, here are some of my other builds, centered around the Veteran class, if you prefer a ranged and Cadian alternative!
(These were made based off of a Cadian WH40kDT OC I made as an offshoot of my MAIN OC from HALO: Colonel Derek Mitchell. Rigorous use of Cadian gear, with a twist, and a whole optional backstory at the end of each build description for a badass lore-reading!)
