How to play : Kill and protect.

Priority target :

  • Dangerous Gunner (Shard or revolver)
  • Specials (Shard/Melee) 
  • CC Waves of ragers/maulers (Purgatus>Trauma>Revolver multi-hit)
  • Create space and Debuff engaged Crusher for your team (Trauma, or Surge/Void but no debuff with them)
  • Other Elites
  • Hord, try to snipe Rager within it before they reach your teamate
  • Help on Boss (Purgatus stacks > Staff or melee)

Use your bubble : 

  • Play always next to your frontlane to be ready to pop-up your shield. Don't be afraid to go aggressive.
  • Use it as soon as you or your teamate ahead are about to take heavy ranged damage
  • Use it against flamer if you are unable to clear them before they start firing
  • Use it on boss to help regenerate toughness for everyone

Shard post patch 14 nerf : 
Shard still very good and more interesting to play if you ask me. You have to choose your target and use rightclic to maximise your damage and shard-management to avoid running out of shard before your target died. 
To do this, you can : 

  • Prefer always target group of priority foes when you use LEFT clic attack. 
  • If gunners/shooters are overwelming on map, prefer use RIGHT clic attack. It can be counter intuitive since left clic as better DPS but you need to manage your shard properly to avoid running out "ammo" !
  • Pref use RIGHT clic to any distant target to prevent the situation where you are commited and need to spam LEFT to burst. 
  • Don't be affraid to use 4-5 shard with LEFT clic in any situation it's not needed elsewhere, it ll' speed up your clean overall. Even in hordes ! Yes, I wrote it. With patch 14, the best use of Shard is to hit MULTIPLE target. If you don't need it to clear gunners then spam somes to help on other aspects of the fight. 

 

Tricks : 

  • Swap on your sword just after you threw Assail to build "Uncanny Strike" stacks against Armored foes
  • Use heavy attack on mutant head to one-shot them (MK IV Duellist sword)
  • Use your right clic on Empowered Psionics and True Aim Proc since damage are greatly increased except if you are targeting horde
  • Try to use your shard wisingly, in most case, you can throw 2-4 shard and drive them on your priority target before firing again
  • If you are stuck in bad melee situation, make enough space with your trauma around you before switching back on Shard/melee combo
  • Revive your teamate. Really. With Kinetic deflection perk, 30% revive speed and your Telekine Bubble you can almost always pop-up your shield and revive someone down. Just watch-out for disabler first. 
  • Keep in mind that you are not very well equiped to do big-fast damage on bosses, use your bubble and focus on other threats to setup a good fight for your mates. Use Melee/trauma if you have to kill them on your own. 
  • Don't forget to use your Duelling Sword special action to interrupt Ragers in melee range. Heavy attack +special action combo allows you to kill ragers without risk. Just learn the range !

 

Mandatory stone for this build :

Some points can be change depending on your personnal preference BUT some other are mandatory in my opinion :

  • True Aim & Perfect Timing: make every 2-3 shards always crit on all his targets and maintain Perfect Timing stacks.
  • Telekine Shield Bubble version : It's the best ability you can get by far, immensly valuable, you can deny ranged until you kill them all, block flamer, provide toughness regeneration, revive teamate, etc. (Don't go for the wall, really, you want mutie to come closer to kill them fast anyway and you could lost all the versatily and clutch capabilities coming from the Bubble version imo.)
  • Soulstealer : This is your main sustain source. Other can be exchange, I advice always keeping this one.

Keystones :

  • Empower psyonic : In my opinion the best option for Shard management, team support and peril management (especially with trauma). The 100 to 150 boost is a signifiant buff and "free" shard are most welcome now. the Psychic leeching allow you to provide a lot of thougness healing to your team (still optionnal, you can go for more rough toughness if you prefer). It seems like it now comes better suited with Bio-lodestone (12.5% chance on any kill) since you are more likely to use it to help you clean lesser enemies in mass than only focusing elites. Nonetheless Overpowering Souls is still viable if you prefer certainty over overall proc chance. 
  • Disrupt Destiny : (with Lingering Influence & Cruel Fortune) becames an available damage option. Use your shard (or revolver) to snipe highlighted target. Don't sacrifice your target priority for stacks. In my opinion the best way to play it is to consider it as global damage boost counterbalancing the nerf of Shard. It falls behind Empower psyonic in my opinion if you want a really intensive shard user gameplay since you lack free shard to help shard generation.

 

About weapons :

  • Ranged Weapons : You can use any staff or revolver with this.
    • Trauma is in my opinion the best team-support option for brittlness debuff and create space when you need it.
      (Blessing : Rending Shockwave and Warp Flurry Perk : Unyielding / Carapace / Flak armor)
    • Revolver is the best kill option, more damage oriented, you can clear specials, crusher and dangerous Ragers faster but have less Crowd Control option. 
    • NEW Fan Revolver : With the new version, you can enhance your crowd control capabilities in short range. Still, don't be afraid to fire "slow" bullet to get max critical chance against Crusher. You can combine precise bullet and shard to kill elites. You have more bullet but you need to manage them properly, spam fan (right+left clic) is no good for ammo management except against dangerous ragers or things like that. 
      You loose some long range power anyway, can ben annoying against sniper. 
    • Purgatus becames an excellent option to mix damage, hord clear and control on those new ragers/maulers waves (patch14) trying to overcome your and your team. Peril management is much more easier than Trauma and Soulblaze helps on bosses. Probably the best Allrounded option overall. Well paired with Duellist sword only to deal with crushers/maulers faster (Burn & Duellist Uncanny strike HeadShot).
    • Surge excells at sniping target if you fill shard are not fast enough and don't want to run a revolver. It does his job against crusher/mauler.
    • Void  is OK but since your are mostly using Shard and Melee swaping in this build... It doesnt give you new possibilities as much as other in my opinion nor help you much against heavily armored elite pack. Still good so. Less supportive. 

 

  • Melees : MK IV Duellist sword is my favorite allowing fast respositioning and very high damage on specific target such as mutie, dogs, ragers, etc. 
    • You can go with a force sword with burn proc for additionnal damage on bosses but... in most case you have more important to do (or bleed knife). And you should probably run purgatus if you want that extra boss damage anyway.  
    • You can use Illisi to add direct AoE damage and toughness sustain in melee thanks to his special attack, less effective against rager/mutie but still OK. Do not pair with purgatus. 
    • You can still go deimos but... It's close to Duelist sword, with less mobility
