So you want to be a Commissar of the Imperial Guard? This guide is here to set you on your way by equipping you with the Emperor's finest equipment, as well as making you a hard karker to kill.

The main focus of this build is the Laspistol which bolsters an impressive 15% base crit chance. This build seeks to push it as high as it will go while by adding on a crit chance perk (+5%), the crit node (+5%), Opening Salvo (+10%), and Deashot (+25%), to get a total crit chance of +60%. You can also optionally run Reciprocity which can stack up to another +25% for a total of +85% Crit Chance, but it may require sacrificing access to a other perks that may give better damage (such as additional rending). This when paired with Shock Trooper (which refunds the ammo directly to the magazine) and Survivalist, your trusty sidearm remains well equipped, though it does require stamina management. Along with some Quality of Life nodes for weapon damage stamina management (such as Superiory Complex and Vanguard) the burden is lessened. With the deadshot changes, a stamina Curio helps out greatly.

Marksman's Focus is where the extra ramp up in damage will be coming from. Any weapon with a decent fire rate can take advantage of the perks ability to ignore stack loss for a few seconds on gaining a stack. With how easy it is to fire the weapon into a horde at eye level, you should be able to aquire max stacks with ease. If precision hits is too hard for you to mange, I'd suggest grabbing Focus Target keystone by going through rending strike, and giving up the +5% Crit Chance node to grab the Redirect Fire modifier.

Voice of Command allows you to give yourself breathing room when overwhelmed, as well as help teammates in radius recover if caught in bad positions. This combined with Iron Will allows you to soak damage when your ultimate is up. Id argue against using Only In Death Does Duty End. The initial cast of VoC and the overshield can grant easy access to revive opportunities. On higher difficulties, a higher cooldown can leave you without a good panic button. With Inspiring Presence it may still work on missions with high specialist modifiers.  Confirmed Kill combined with the Laspistol's Reassurinly Accurate allows you to keep your toughness above Iron Will's sweet spot. You can switch out Reassuringly to instead take Infernus (which the tick damage procs Dumdum) but i prefer the added toughness regen after nerfs to Confirmed Kill.

The final pieces of the build such as Blitz and Melee are optional. Included are the options I take. Krak helps fill in some of the las-pistol's weaknesses against Carapace, but Flamers can cause issues without a Maniac perk. The Power Sword mk VI is my current weapon of choice. It requires very specific combo knowledge, but with a mixture of the blessings and perks shown, you're able to hit 2-3 shot breakpoints on Crushers, and the Maniac perk helps fill some of the Laspistol's weakness. For newer players, I'd instead recommend the default Chainsword or one of the new strikedown shovels for a less hard, more consistent option. (Especially with the new shovels having better crusher breakpoints)

The build allows you to use your laspistol for most engagements, with your melee ready for when you need breathing room against a horde. Your goal is to take out specialist and elites when they appear, especially when a boss is present, but you're no pushover in horde fights or objectives with your overwhelming toughness. Keep the ult for emergencies when you're overwhelmed, or to create breathing room when a teammate needs a revive. It's great for resetting toughness whenever it breaks as well as to walk in a room and tank gunners.

Now go and show the Heretics what it means to be the finest officer of the Imperium, and show your allies why you demand respect.
