Stack up weak spot hits to gain strong crits and support your team!

Do you suck at aiming? Then this build is for you!

As of patch 15, both Smite and the Surge staff target random body parts of enemies (though the damage is now normalized between limbs, head, and body shots). Importantly, this means weak spots are randomly - and frequently - targeted. Combined with the "True Aim" perk, this allows you to guarantee critical hits to take out Elites and Specialists quickly.

Combining that with the "Empowered Psionics" keystone creates a strong positive feedback loop: Smite racks up weak spots hits, allowing you to get easy kills on Elites, which stacks up Empowered Psionics charges allowing smite to spread faster, building up weak spot hits even faster, and so on (not to mention "Psychic Leeching" restoring 15% toughness for the whole team with every empowered smite)

Build Details:

  • Smite: This should be your first line of defense. Hold back the hordes with your lightning, and watch as your "True Aim" buff stacks up to 5 with almost no effort. Be wary, though; as fun as it is to switch off of Smite to Surge right away, you are still the best team member to control the crowd. Save that juicy crit for the select enemies that need it, especially if there are still big poxwalker hordes swarming the team. Note: Releasing the smite before reaching 100% peril knocks down enemies for both charged and uncharged smites, allowing to quell peril and smite again, or jump in with some free melee hits.
  • Shield: One of the best team support options around. Though some may like Venting Shriek instead for the instant peril quelling, losing out on the toughness replenishment and ranged damage elimination this provides for your team is simply not worth it in my opinion. However, if you can't live without the Shriek, it's a more flexible part of the build.
  • Surge: Though the Voidstrike staff can also work well on this build, I prefer the Surge staff for two reasons. Firstly, it allows you to continue to easily stack up True Aim weakspot hits to get another crit, without having to aim for weakspots or switch back to smite. Secondly, even more lightning means even more UNLIMITED POWER.
  • Melee weapon: Illisi Force Sword. This is the most flexible part of the build. I prefer the Illisi for it's horde clearing capabilities on post-smited hordes, ability to quell peril during melee, and the ability to use the Deflector perk to block ranged damage when waiting for the shield to recharge. However, if you want better single-target damage, the Deimos or Dueling Sword are equally excellent options.
  • This build has about 4 free perks points to play with. Some suggestions: "Toughness Boost" after "True Aim"; any of the pre-blitz perks such as Quietude or Soulstealer, per your preferred playstyle; "Empathetic Evasion" to dodge while you crit (this is particularly nice if you choose a different melee weapon); "Mind in Motion" to keep up with teams that move quickly; or "Wildfire" and "Perilous Combustion" if you are a big fan of Soulblaze.

Now get out there, varlets, and zap some heretics!
