While viable in Damnation, I would say the MOST fun I have with this build is in Heresy and below.

While you "CAN" lead the group, it's strongly encouraged to just be a backbone.

It has a lot of flexibility in that you can snipe with BB, you can take out priorities with BB, you can chose to use force sword for elites or hordes and it will excel depending on the variant you chose (see below), and lastly you can stagger ALMOST everything with flame staff taps/clicks and what can't be staggered, well... Cleanse the heretic with fire!
Peril management is pretty safe with this build, force sword provides a nice block > FORCE shove that staggers ragers and maulers.

Shield lets you establish a nice safe sport for the team to hold their ground OR it's great for a rescue to stop shotgunners, gunners, snipers... and regens shields. 🤷

Strength:

You set the world on fire. Versatile kit allows you to deal with almost anything you encounter, support the team, and with minimal effort.

Weakness:

Monsters, because they actually require effort to kill. Barrels, be aware of barrels. This build is not going to kill everything on the screen as quickly as an Ogryn Frag, but it WILL kill everything on the screen.

Play:

Step 1a, Run'n'Gun (also a perk option for staff) by tapping the staff as you approach to stagger and ignite...

Step 1b, BB an elite in the middle of a pack to set everything on FIRE.

Step 2a, Use the flame secondary to burn everything to the ground. OR

Step 2b, Continue your approach and lay waste with the force sword of your choice.

Melee:

Personal preference for melee, Deimos for its ability to 1 shot most elites with a heavy attack. However, if you want more horde clear capability go with the Illis.

Just button mash ftw AFTER ensuring there are stacks of soulblaze.

Range:

BB is your go-to for long range sniping and chipping away monsters.

Flame staff primary attack for near endless stagger (great team support).

Secondary flame staff for large groups of anything.

Note: Bulwarks cannot be set aflame from the front.

Curios:

Toughness and HP because they keep you in the fight.

Regen % increase reduces the delay before regen starts and increases % per second.

No need for resistance to gunners, snipers, etc because of the shield ability.

No need for ability CD - Warp Siphon (keystone) handles that for you.

You can drop the +1 wounds if you feel brave or are running easier content.

Ability Choices:

While Shriek seems like a good fit with soulblaze and stagger and quell - it's really not necessary and the supportive benefit of the AoE shield bubble outweighs that of the frontal cone stagger.

Passives:
It's all about getting those crits, staying alive, and killing everything you possibly can - with soulblaze.

Didn't use Mettle because when you start critting, it happens constantly and it's too easy to "shoom" away from the group.

You can drop anything you like (suggest: Quietude) for Perfect Timing to gain and extra 15% base damage from crits, which you do - a lot.

Enjoy!
