This build capitalises on the potential for a high Crit Chance with the Surge Staff which has a Critical Bonus stat.
Use the the Primary Fire (LMB) for the majority of ranged combat. It's spammable, low Peril cost, dead on accurate and MOST IMPORTANTLY high dmg and staggers a ton with Crit Hits (see below).
Use the Secondary Fire (RMB) AKA Staff Smite to stun and crowd control Elites and Specialists.
Crits on the Surge Staff boosts A TON of Dmg and Stagger on both attack modes (more than 2x for Primary Fire). We can further boost Crit effects with the DISRUPT DESTINY Keystone, which buffs +30% Cit Dmg among several things. Lastly, Crits also trigger some nice bonuses from Talents like Mettle and Perfect Timing.
Focus on getting a high Critical Bonus stat, the WARP NEXUS blesssing and Critical Chance perk for the Staff.
Pick the the PRESCIENCE Aura and Critical Chance Boost Talents.
All together, your base Crit Chance can be up to 50% per shot!
Psykers are squishy. The best defense is always dodging and avoiding getting hit. You will rely on toughness regain, especially via the Mettle talent (+5% toughness on Crit Hit).
In any case, the TELEKINE SHIELD ability helps you and YOUR TEAM a lot, especially against gunners. I avoided the SCRIER GAZE ability because it's overkill and risky, but it can work if you quell Peril a lot with the Solidity talent.
Overall, this build has high dps potential and is fun, while still being survivable and helpful in teams on Damnation+.
Keep spamming the Primary Fire (LMB) on the staff most of the time. You can one-shot most Dregs and stagger Elites instantly. It takes getting used to the slow projectiles but you can use it to your advantage (fire and cover).
When Crushers, Maulers or Ragers get close, use the Secondary Fire (RMB) to stun for your team. The Duelling Sword (which has massive critical damage) is great against hordes, bosses and elites.
Lastly, constantly maintain ~60-80% Peril for that extra Crit Chance and Dmg!
