WEAPONS
Deimos Mk IV Blaze Force Sword
Decent for hordes, good for elites and great for specials.

The special attack stuns most enemies, but it takes some time to cast and use. The Deflector blessing helps you block more melee attacks and even some ranged attacks.

  • I use LIGHT ATTACKS on weak enemies and a horde if I can't vent peril.
  • I barely use HEAVY ATTACKS, generally only in combination with the special attack.
  • The SPECIAL ATTACK is great against mutants and single crushers, maulers etc. Heavy attacks increase its damage.

Equinox Mk IV Voidstrike Force Staff
Great for shredding hordes and crowd controlling specials and elites.
It has fantastic damage on elites and can shred through hordes. It makes up for the shortcomings of the Deimos IV. You could change Warp Nexus to Warp Flurry if you prefer.

DOME SHIELD
Keeps you and your team alive. Stay in it while you can, but don't be afraid to leave it when necessary.

Cast the shield to:

  • Block damage
  • Block line of sight on snipers
  • Regenerate toughness (for example during bossfights or when your melee teammates are fighting a large group of mobs)
  • Protect teammates who are doing an objective
  • Protect downed teammates/reviving teammates
  • See your shield in the final cinematic after you succesfully completed the mission

Use it often, but with a purpose.
Even when you're not IN the shield, it still blocks shots, Beast of Nurgle puke etc.

The cooldown reduction on the Curios and through the Warp Siphon keystone make sure you almost always have a shield ready. If you don't think you need the cooldown reduction on curios, you can swap it for something else.

SMITE
Great for crowd control and to keep enemies stunned.

Smite can stop mutants from smashing your teammates into the ground after they caught them, it can stun entire screens of enemies. Its damage isn't great but can sometimes kill enemies (for example bursters in a horde, very nice). It can help you create distance between you and the horde if needed. I generally use it when I think my teammates need it, or when I think my Voidstrike staff can't keep up with the horde so I can create some distance or let my team kill the enemies while the enemies can't fight back. I pretty much always use the charged up smite, as it's faster to spread.

CURIOS

Stamina is really good for mobility and defense (blocking/pushing), but taking more than 1 stamina curio isn't necessary.

Combat Ability Regeneration (like mentioned above) is optional. If you don't need it, take something else.

NOTE
As a backline support, your team is often in front of you. Surprising, I know.

This means you have to guard your own back sometimes. Make sure you check for enemies every now and then, cause you can't take many shouldertaps before you go down.
