EDIT 7/1/24: The new shock mauls are a fantastic option for this build, and with opportunist anything armored doesn't stand a chance against you 1v1. The perfect defensive weapon!
For crowds: Alternate heavy, light, heavy, etc. Use the push attack to reset the chain if you accidentally go into the overhead heavies. For big boys: Zap 'em with the special attack, and start whacking the head with overhead heavies.
So first off, I'm sure this build isn't super optimized/efficient. It just fit really well with how I like to play Veteran, basically being overwatch for your team and taking care of threats before they get to them.
The build is around being self-sustaining while helping the team keep their toughness topped up. And also killing every special/gunner that dares to tread on Atoma. Karkers... For the lasgun, SHORT, CONTROLLED BURSTS! If you spray and pray constantly, you'll run out of ammo even with crits giving you free shots.
The chainsword is good enough at handling crowds, armored enemies mixed in will make you have to dance around a bit though. Use the special attack to deal with ragers/maulers/crushers. For the maulers if you can avoid hitting their head you can melt him with one special. Ragers are made of paper, special nukes them. As for crushers, pray you have room to dodge around while you land a couple of revved heavies. If you mark a crusher with 8 stacks, you can kill him in two revved heavies to the head if you get the entire shred attack to land.
Grenades are for crowd control, and to help bleed/cc bosses down. For bosses, the pattern is pretty simple. Start with a 'nade for bleed/stagger, let off a good couple bursts at the weak point to stack burn and then run in to use those heavy revved attacks to keep the bleed procced.
With the curios, I try to play very mobile when I can. The gunner resistance lets you fight them pretty easily, definitely take them out first if your team has crowds/disablers handled! Priority goes:1. Disablers if they're an immediate threat or you spot them running up.
2. Gunners. (I hate these assholes, seriously.)
3. Regular shooters.
4. I personally don't use the gun on mobs too often, maybe to spray a bit at head level to soften them up a little.
Also focus snipers when you see them, but that kinda goes for every class.
Good luck, fellow rejects!
