Found this build on youtube but there wasn't a guide here for it here. I'll include a link to the original creator: AgentChaos. I did not create the video linked below.

The build has good crowd control control and decent single target damage but struggles against dealing with Monstrosities alone. The combat loop is to use your staff's secondary ability (Staff-Bound Smite) to take out most enemies, popping your ability (Venting Shriek) when you are getting close to max peril. If the situation calls for it you can quell the peril once it gets close to max again, or switch to melee to let it cool down while still being combat effective. You can power up your sword for heavy attacks against elite enemies, but so far I prefer to use it only when I have maxed my Peril and don't have time to quell, you want to avoid being on the front line and instead want to be behind your tank players, supporting them with either your staff's smite or locking down hordes of elites with your base smite. Your toughness regens from your critical hits so make sure to prioritize getting the perk Warp Nexus as soon as possible.
