If you want more of a challenge in Auric/Maelstrom, this is a fun build that will improve your movement and situational awareness/responses. Though it requires you to have good aim with throwing knives, and if you mess up; you are pretty much toast due to no Until Death. It forces you to change bad habits.

Curios

This can be your preference, but I strongly recommend Combat Ability Regeneration which will work in unison with your Invocation of Death and Pious Cut-Throat abilities, and Stamina Regeneration to allow your sprint and block reserves to be full more often.

Melee

The Mk III Combat Blade is excellent for movement and dodging, which you will do a lot to hit backstab and weak points. Flesh Tearer could be swapped for Ruthless Backstab or Precognition depending on taste.

  • Thanks to Invocation of Death and Pious Cut-Throat we can spam backstab on any enemies to proc Shroudfield every 5ish seconds.
  • A successful dodge will grant +50% weak spot and critical hit damage, as well as 3 stacks of Momentum
  • Use Shroudfield as a backstabbing amplifier for tougher enemies.
  • Maximum damage setup: Build 15 stacks of Momentum>Push spam until your stamina depletes and procs Desperation>Perform a successful dodge>Activate Shroudfield and perform a weak spot backstab. (+100% critical chance, +100% finesse dmg, +205% dmg)

Ranged

The Purgation Flamer is good for one thing, and it does that thing better than any other weapon: horde clear. If you hear the horde sound, start building your Momentum stacks, once the horde is within distance pop stealth and let it rip for 3-5 seconds; then watch everything die. (This ensures +15% dmg, +100% critical chance, plus your flamer +Power% modifiers)

You should use your melee and throwing knives for any other scenario.

Throwing Knives

Our throwing knives can 1-shot every enemy in the game with a weak spot hit, bar Dreg/Scab Ragers and Mutants; which will require 2 hits. I would recommend a throwing knife and a quick melee heavy to deal with those. Do not use them on Ogryn's, Bosses, or Maulers because they're useless in that case; use your Mk III Combat Blade

You want to use these to deal with specialists and elites because you do not have anything else in your arsenal for ranged opportunities, and the throwing knife is quicker than switching to your sidearm

Shroudfield

Your get-out-of-jail-free card in some scenarios, reviving allies and planting objectives/auspex. You mainly want to use this on cooldown in tandem with your Invocation of Death and Pious Cut-Throat abilities. You will benefit from its 40% toughness regeneration and 20% damage reduction after leaving stealth, without needing to stand there like a pleb in comparison to using Chorus of Spiritual Fortitude.
