Key Points

  • Veteran's don't need keystones! Of any of the classes, keystones on the Veteran are the least necessary and the cost to take them frequently requires sacrificing a lot of other strong talents along the way.
  • Double Infiltrate on the vet provides a ton of utility.  While Voice of Command is the more popular ability, meta-wise, for class ability, infiltrate brings a more thrilling set of options to the table. You can escape a bad situation or pull off a flanking maneuver.  You can stealth to revive a teammate.  You can sneak behind a crusher and stick a krak grenade up its... you get the idea.
  • Las-weapons are the cornerstone of this build, which combined with blessings/perks for crit chance and the Shock Trooper talent gives great ammo sustain even without survivalist. See the Alternatives suggestion for non-laser tweaks.
  • Agile Engagement is a baby-Weapon Specialist talent, and gives a boost to frequent weapon swapping.
  • Krak Grenades are universally useful for dealing with clumps of armor, and we get extra krak grenades and two sources of grenade replenishment.
  • Rending from Onslaught works well in conjunction with high rate of fire weapons.
  • Good toughness regen and toughness damage reduction talents throughout.

Melee Weapon Options

  • Chainsword with Wrath + Shred is a great all arounder. Iconic with a wonderful sawing special.
  • Shovel (Mk??) - This is great for both anti-armor with the folder marks and provides good horde management and space making.
  • Tactical Axe with Brutal Momentum + Shred
  • Combat Axe
  • Knife

Ranged Weapon Options

  • Recon Lasgun with Headhunter + Infernus
  • Laspistol
  • Infantry Lasgun IVa

Alternatives

If you move off las weapons, can drop Shock Trooper talent.  If moving to a slower firing weapon can also drop Onslaught (and stamina regen node above it). Frees up three points for something else. It's enough to grab a different aura, grab Confirmed Kill + Close Order Drill (nice for durability), and/or Superiority Complex. Suggestions:

  • Columnus Mk V IAF (still benefits from Onslaught)
  • Revolver
  • Headhunter Autoguns
  • Plasma Gun
