Hello rejects,
I'm playing veteran since the beta and I always wanted to create something like this - a key stone of the team, character that provides tons of support for the squad and at the same time is a jack of all trades. I think I managed to achieve just that with this build I'm presenting to you.
For veteran veteran (hehe :) ) players will be probably already clear what I cooked when they check the curios and talent tree, but let me explain for newer players...
We start at the top with classic commissar middle path, taking talent "Charismatic" since I think it's a keystone of the success - maintain cohesion. Let everybody benefit from bigger area of your presence when pressing your carrier skill providing extra toughness + 10% damage boost for the squad, ammo supply from your aura and the most OP part of your coherency bonus, you are actually regenerating up to 20% toughness AND stamina on kill of target tagged by you. - keystone modifier talent "Target Down!". The cherry on the top - auras from your comrades are maintained much easier with over all toughness regen boost from the base game mechanic of cohesion. We can conclude from here that our role and playstyle should be in the heart of our squad. I'll come to my favorite playstyle later... Did I sell it to you already? If not, let's continue to more subtle part of talent choices. Before the career skill choice, I made a decision to take side 2 excellent talents, that synergize extremely well with what I wanted to accomplish with this build - crit chance boost followed by my favorite "LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND" This will become your number one dogma you're going to play around (trust me, its addictive saving people's asses, hehe :) ). Assist and revive speed 20% boost and the movement speed towards downed comrades synergize with our Frag grenade choice and carrier skill. Simply throw 1-2 grenades near your colleague in need, and start your 50% faster revive (yes 50%, because we're running +10% revive speed on all 3 curios and also buy them the way out with 33% damage reduction for 5s after being rescued. That's the key to the mission success, keep everybody alive and happy so they can kill and bully heretics.
Weapon choices:
Those are just my subjective favorite picks, you probably can find success with other weapons too if you want to experiment yourselves. I'm a sucker for revolver and I pick Mark IIa because it has the biggest one-shot (two-shot mauler/reaper/crusher/bulwark) potential when you can guarantee the crit shots. This is what we're going to do with our talent choices and blessing on the weapon. I already mentioned the synergy of crit boost talent point we chose earlier, after that we're going to have "Deadshot" talent in the sharpshooter end-tree unlocked. Combine this with "Surgical" blessing on the revolver and you have nearly guaranteed crit every time you aim for ~1s. Very effective, very deadly for elites. Most of the elites you can straight up one-shot body shot with the crit. Some elites are tougher and require you to use your keystone talents. That's right "Focus Target".
As a commissar and a team leader, that should elevate and support your inferiors, you need to be a manager on the battlefield. Point out the priority targets by tagging them, not only your tags looks cooler than everyone's else, the target tagged by you receive up to 20% more damage from all sources which is insanely strong. It's strong not only for your team, but also as a tool to reach some of the thresholds in damage for being able to 2 shot Crusher ( headshot + body-shot should kill it, 30% weak spot damage boost talent help us with that).
NOTE: "Precision strikes" talent can be replaced by e.g. "Longshot" on the top of talent tree in sharpshooter line, or "Bring it Down!" for extra monstrosity and ogryn damage - these 2 rings a bell for me and allow you to 2 shot crusher. You can decide that you don't need to 2 shot crusher, since you have your team and pick up the "Field Improvisation" to further boost the support role in the squad. But I find +30% weak spot damage being a good allrounder talent, helping with every enemy and rewarding the player for aiming correctly (performing like a true veteran and commissar - hitting those headshots), especially helpful with horde clear (your weakest role - but still very manageable with your chain sword (possibly power sword with power cycler blessing, if you like that better).
Regarding the melee weapon choice, chain sword is my addiction, and I won't let it go any time soon. I like to play it with "Wrath" blessing that allows me to cleave through hordes like a hot knife through the butter. The second blessing. "Bloodletter", I grabbed it just to hit breakpoint damage on maulers, mutants, bulwarks so with one special heavy attack it's possible to bleed them out. Bleed will finish the job for you and you don't need to worry about the threat anymore. Also it brings a ton of single target damage when dealing with monstrosities and ogryn elites - bulwarks especially - activate your special, let them wind up the attack, wind-up your heavy attack at the same time, dodge his and hit the open head. The damage is excellent, especially with weak spot damage boost from "Precision strikes", allowing you to head-hit bleed out Bulwarks.
CURIOS:
Beside already mentioned revive speed boosts on every curio, I chose to pick stamina regeneration speed - helping with "Deathshot" talent stamina management, more mobility sprints, pushing/blocking, and Toughness Regen Speed for keeping the toughness up (over 75% so the key defense talent "Iron Will" is pretty much always active).
NOTE:
Stamina shouldn't be a problem if you keep tagging elites and killing 'em. I recommend you to keybind your tag hotkey to mouse wheel-up, that way you can scan the area in front of you by scrolling the mouse wheel forward while sliding your camera over the horizon, revealing those sneaky specialists or incoming threats from the distance. Also it's effective tool to quickly identify any mixed in elites in the horde. From the keystone talent - "Target Down" you and your comrades in coherency constantly getting stamina after any of you kill the target.
PLAYSTYLE:
I'll give you my mindset for this build by priorities:
Try to play in cohesion, don't run in front, don't be the last, be the heart of your squad. I prefer to be on rank 3 - making sure everybody safely passes the points of no return on the map - remember - "Leave No One Behind" talent applies to your mindset, you're the leader, you take responsibility for your squad members commissar!
As for fighting - being the back rank is optimal, scan for specials and dangerous elites and eliminate them with your revolver. You can support your team with horde clear if you for example don't have good front lane (e.g. you, 2 psykers and another sharpshooter. Since you don't have ogryn or zealot who can control /clear the horde with maximum efficiency, you, as the allrounder, are forced to play less optimal role on higher priority. If you have psykers and sharpshooter with plasmagun, you won't need more elite killing power. Just tag the targets so your comrades can kill them and benefit from your toughness and stamina gains from those kills - remember that it doesn't have to be you to kill the target, it just needs to be killed by someone. Everyone in your coherency will benefit so keep it close to your mates. Use your revolver for specialist mainly. If you're in position of horde cleaner, carrier ability can help you create some breathing room to snipe few specials/elites in the process. also frag grenades can serve the same. Throw it under yourself (do not try this at home XD ), BOOM you have 2-3 sec for specials and rangers/annoying gunners. With a few dodges you can buy even 4-7 seconds and empty whole your magazine. You should reload your weapon at any given moment of solitude you have. Like whenever I push and dodge backwards, it's a reload time - even if you manage to reload only 1 bullet, it's worth it. In the ideal world, you have your frontline ogryn, zealot and psyker and you're playing around your "Superiority Complex" - that's a talent btw XD. So killing specials -> elites -> horde ->Monstrosities (you should still tag them immediately after spawning, spending 5 stacks of "Focus Target!" to maintain +20% damage to bring it down faster for your team. Let the single target damage to your zealot and if you have the opportunity, help yourself and deal some massive damage with revolver, or heavy specials with your chain sword for nice bleed.
For now, I'm finished with my author writing capacity, I might make some illustrational video, just for the fun of it and I hope the build will serve you well. It really brings up the peace and stability in otherwise hectic situations. The build brought me, and I believe mainly to my comrades in the squad, smooth and steady runs through Auric Maelstroms. So I can promise you, it's an accomplished late game allrounder.
Have a fun and feel free to leave some feedback. I'll be glad.
