For those of you who think like a black templar and fight like a salamander
the main gimmick is lots of crits which make lots of ammo. the flamer can be used on anything except crushers, including some specials. the chainsword is there for 3 reasons: defensive capability (stamina and mobility), crusher damage and doing damage while under pressure. an example is being rushed by a chaos spawn.
strategy: after playing this build a couple times you get a feel for what needs a good burning and what can be shredded by the chainsword. generally in maelstrom any more than 2 elites in a group, or bosses, or large hordes can become ash. lone crushers can go too.
there are 3 enemies that require a bit of finesse to take care of: bulwarks, reapers and gunners. with bulwarks aim for their arms and any bulwark that is swinging at you. if its a single bulwark just chainsword it down. reapers and gunners require dodging un and out of cover until you are close enough to use your charge ability and close the distance. dont worry about the damage taken while charging, by the time you get flaming they will be supressed and shortly murdered
specials: get used to using the throwing knives for this one. melee only for mutants (you can 2 shot headshot if u want with knives but dont bother), headshot for flamers, bombers and trappers. wait until the flamer and trapper are attacking you then their heads stand still. bombers are slightly harder to hit, and dogs are very tough to hit. you CAN headshot, or crit knife them but it will take practice and usually your better off with the old push and decapitate.
strengths: because of the splash damage and boss power there really is nothing that this build can't take care of. evern crusher patrols are usually full of maulers ragers and bulwarks which when taken care of makes kiting the crushers a piece of cake. you have a death save too so nothing wrong with tanking an overhead if you get unlucky.
weaknesses: it is all too easy to use up flamer ammo quickly if not paying attention. if you are the type that is terrible with ammo efficiency then you will struggle to see this one through on maelstrom. you need to get to about 20m away from gunners to charge them so gunlines on roofs and far away are a nuisance. use dodges to keep your toughness up and run into cover.
interchangeables: all chain weapons work here, i just found the chainsword does its job best in this build. crushers and combat axes work too. basically anything with good AP and mobility. of course the duelling sword is best here but if your the type to look up darktide build you most certainly are aware of that.
and that's all you need to know. burn every heretic!
