For regular elites, charge the hammer and hit them with an overhead heavy attack in the head.
For bosses, use Shroudfield, activate special attack and charge the attack to a max and then try to hit it from behind, preferably in a weak spot.Use your shotgun to take out people on short to medium distance. A good tactic is to slide in and shoot from close range.
The immolation grenades are perfect for bigger hords and to clear the way to the bosses.It's also a great combination with the Shroudfield to pickup downed team mates.
