I wouldn' call it a "rework." Huge buff though. What I've been using before the update is what I'm using now and will probably continue to use pretty much forever. There really is just something satisfying about killing like 20 guys per swing that keeps me from finding value in the other ogryn archetypes. 

 

I'm still super weak to anything with a ranged weapon. Whenever there aren't melee guys to fight, I'm struggling. Still. FS hinted at possible reducing ranged enemy spawns to equalize more with melee spawns. I hope theyactually do that.  

 

Impactful isn't that good, but damn if it isn't fun to hit mobs into space. Plus no additional damage nodes affect breakpoints, and I'm plenty tough, so why even bother getting something meta-ish. I'm not taking steady grip,I know a lot of people really like it, but I can never find a situation where hiding and bracing my gun is possible. 

 

The main differences being:

  • You don't get stuck on poxwalkers anymore. 🙌 Best new feature, and its not even close. 
  • More toughness, damage reduction, damage, better breakpoints, and faster attack speed. Stat increases across the board. Can't complain.
  • You can hotswap now, but only reliably with the kickback. 
  • Bull charge is now invincibility to everything but barrels. Shoutout to the teammates who ledged me on my first game. 

 

Some criticisms:

  • WHY CAN'T OGRYN VAULT RAILINGS?!?! OR GO THROUGH WINDOWS QUICKLY!?! Mobility should not be punished. They're stupid, not slow.   
  • Slam does not regenerate nearly enough stamina. Passive stamina regen is so much faster. 
  • Light em up doesn't work with fire away. I only get 8 stacks of burn.
  • Grenades aren't valuable enough to have blitz modifiers instead of just better default blitzes. 
  • Gunlugger has hardly any toughness regen, nor swap intensive build potential like FS advertised. 
  • Brutish strength could stand to apply more than 10% brittleness. Ogryn shoves are not snappy enough for such a low number. 
  • Unbreakable doesn't work as far as I can tell. What even is a perfect block?
  • No stopping me is useless. You slow down during the start of your windup, and sliding is both free and safer. If it was movement speed instead...
  • Ogryn guns were buffed, but not correctly. Why is everything geared towards magdumping on the class without ammo efficiency? 
  • All this cool new stuff has to compete with the guy who just took a pickaxe with heavy hitter, which was already good before the update and is now even better.

Some stuff that deserves applause:

  • Concentrate is pretty good. I thought it would drain stamina a whole lot more, but its hardly even noticeable, and having the option to fire a little more accurately is very nice. 
  • Burst limiter is nuts. The blue ripper gun with the extra fire rate can kill mixed hordes (no ability needed) in like half a second. No joke, very strong.  
  • The cleavers are a huge standout—the bull butcher specifically is shockingly strong, what a time we live in where I can say that. The new attack patterns, punch values, and mobility buffs make it competitively viable alongside the shield and Pickaxe, and its very refreshing to see. Unfortunately, its the only class of weapons that I think compete. Shovels need more default cleave or better armor penetration; and clubs are just pickaxes with less range, cleave—and mobility in the case of the karsolas. 
  • Middle path has insanely fast toughness regen for doing nothing. FNP alongside stay close and and loyal protector is practical invincibility. For the casual player, its such an easy build. 

 

Overall, its a great step in the right direction. FS really needs to look at the blitzes, PBB, and gunner defense/balancing before I'd call it a rework rather than an overall buff. Ogryn doesn't feel different to play, the meta hasn't changed.
