Description
This variation on the meta MKIV Cleaver build makes two substitutions:
- Tenderizer replaces Confident Strike
- Stay Close! replaces Bonebreaker's Aura (to compensate for the Toughness regeneration loss)
While sacrificing 10% damage from Bonebreaker's Aura, Tenderizer provides 25% Strength, so the trade gives you a net gain of:
- +15% damage
- +25% impact
- +25% cleave (as Strength affects all three attributes)
- Improving your Bleed damage (I don't know why Tenderizer improves it, but it does)
Impact Stacking:
With Slam, Impactful, and the impact bonuses from both Slaughterer and Tenderizer, you achieve an impressive +170% Impact bonus.
The Cleaver's punch attack has been redesigned to maintain its "Ignore Stagger Negation" property while now dealing actual damage. This punch, enhanced by your stacked Impact bonuses, staggers any enemy in the game. No exceptions. You can stagger Beasts of Nurgle, even though there is no actual stagger animation. The Slam proc still shows up after every punch.
Combat Flow:
Each successful punch refills 5% Stamina thanks to Slam, ensuring you maintain enough Stamina to keep Pumped Up active. Focused Fighter synergizes perfectly with this aggressive playstyle, as you'll be constantly engaged in close combat.
Recommended combat combo: L1, punch, L1, punch (alternatively, L1, L2, punch also works effectively).
The attack speed increases from Indomitable, Frenzied Blows, and Just Getting Started make this combo devastatingly effective, providing continuous stagger while regenerating both Toughness and Stamina in substantial amounts.
Effectiveness Against Elite Enemies
- Open Bulwarks with just two punches
- Interrupt Crushers' overhead animations with a single punch to the head
- Even Beast of Nurgle enemies, while technically stagger-resistant, still trigger Slam procs with each punch
- It works fine against Enraged Elites, as you will have staggered them (thereby applying all your debuffs) before they enter the enraged state.
Additionally, Hard Knocks activates whenever Slam procs (after every punch), providing a team-wide damage buff similar to Soften Them Up.
Ranged Weapon Options:
Your ranged weapon choice is flexible.
- Rumbler: Helpful for boss damage, though your melee is already effective against them
- Kickback: Better for horde clearing, but consumes ammunition when the Psyker could just do it for free
I use the Grenadier Gauntlet, with Maniacs and Specialists for Perks. Note that both Trappers and Mutants (primary Ogryn threats) qualify as both a Maniac and a Specialist.
Suggested Blessings:
- Pinpointing Target: Beneficial when aiming at charging Mutants or fleeing Trappers
- Disruptive: Provides a small pre-emptive damage boost by firing one shot into approaching hordes
If I have someone I trust on Special duty, I'll switch to a Rumbler. If we already have strong boss damage on the team, my third choice will be a Kickback.
