Description
ME LIKE HIT THINGS. HIT THINGS REAL GOOD. HIT BAD MEN, DO GOOD JOB.
HIT BAD MEN SO HARD THEY FALL OVER, THEN KEEP HITTING. BAD MEN NOT GET UP.
EVEN WHEN BAD MAN REALLY BIG, JUST KEEP HITTING. WORKS OUT IN THE END.
The Club Wizard is a melee-focused Ogryn build designed to tackle both mixed hordes and bosses up to Auric with light melee spam. It exploits the low damage and fast attack speed of "Brunt's Basher" Mk IIIb Bully Club to rapidly apply and stack debuffs (Thunderous, Skullcrusher, Soften Them Up) and DoT (Batter) while also building melee buffs (Frenzied Blows, Heavy Hitter, Just Getting Started!, Great Cleaver). The ultra-high Impact rating of your swings will also stunlock almost every enemy you can reach, shutting down dangerous enemies such as Maulers and Ragers. Tests in the Meat Grinder have demonstrated up to 8x increases in damage per swing when stacks are fully developed, even on Auric Crushers.
Survivability is generated by the usual Ogryn toughness DR/recovery picks (Steady Grip, Smash 'Em!, The Best Defence, Payback Time, Pumped Up+Slam, Delight in Destruction, Unstoppable, No Hurting Friends!) along with toughness-focused Curios. Bonebreaker's Aura can be swapped for Stay Close! if additional survivability is required, but I find that it isn't necessary in most situations. Getting stuck into a crowd will see your Toughness bar flicker as it is restored to 100% faster than the next enemy can swing for chip damage.
This build's one major weakness is ranged enemies. If you're out in the open in front of distant gunners, you will be quickly shredded and killed (especially on Damnation & Auric). The Achlys Mk II Heavy Stubber is your sidearm for peeking these killing fields and methodically picking off gunners, and it carries enough ammo that you can usually shoot trash riflemen without running out. Steady Grip and Dedicated Practice will make peeks faster and more reliable. Remember to aim for headshots wherever possible.
See the video below for typical 3-second kills on Auric Maulers and Crushers using nothing but light attack spam.
