Description
- Slap your way to victory and keep the lil uns safe at the same time!
- Bonk BIG BOYS when you have them all grouped up
- ????
- Profit.
The gameplay loop revolves around slide dodging into packs of gunners/hordes (to avoid getting lit up by ranged fire) and taunting and slapping away; you can also dodge to knock enemies down with ogryn's innate trait "Out of My Way!"; use of these two methods of stagger is the primary way of quickly resetting your Loyal Protector cooldown. Your slaps also replenish your stamina every second thanks to "Slam" Perk.
EDIT: The game play has now involved to NEED to rely on the club for ARMORED units of any types (and reapers too yes); with this being said, YOU MUST ACCOUNT for your club doing some of the work too now (I'm sad too, so the video stays for posterity's sake); you must group up by slapping little enemies and bonking armored ragers/crushers/bulkwarks (but focus down those reapers first please).
I personally like to taunt a pack and slide-dodge to the next group to bunch up more mobs to more easily reset the cooldown (and also shutdown regular ranged unit fire). Packs of ragers and maulers also eat hands just fine, and do melt fairly quickly thanks to "Thunderous", "Skullcrusher" weapon blessings, and "Batter" perk. You do have to respect crushers still. you can CC them reliably with taunt, but you can only stagger them with actual club hits. Reapers/bulwarks take a few slaps to be staggered (on auric) so it is likely better to club them too. Depending on the boss and situation, I alternate between heavy weakspot hits with the club and quick slaps to apply Brittleness quickly. I personally only throw nades to save team mates or for fun. I also find I dont really need any ammo and let the team take most of it.
EDIT: This last paragraph is no longer accurate due to changes in impact values via nerfs to the amount of damage you can get out of one slap; YOU MUST BONK if you want quicker CC on armored targets now.
Thanks to the incredible amount of CC you put out and the damage resistance it generates, you are much safer in packs of mobs then out in the open for ranged units to gun you down. you have to rely on cover when you can and slide dodging when you can't until you get stuck into the safety of the next group of fools who need slappin.
You can taunt while holding vacuum capsule; this can be a double edged sword though, as you will stagger the enemies around you, but you will pull in more mobs to join in after the surrounding mobs recover.
The curios are to your taste. I recommend at least one stamina curio. the health stat could be swapped for toughness for havoc(as you have great ways of regenerating toughness). I do recommend ALWAYS having Ability CDR/revive/speed, but leave an option slot always for flavor.
Your ranged weapon is also personal preference; I went with the Krourk stubber for easy quick shots on bombers and snipers.
EDIT: I prefer the Blastoom launcher/rock combo now as well, but BOTH options are completely viable and up to your tastes on how to get rid of annoying ranged threats that you cant reach yet.
Due to recent nerfs to bleed stacks applied on Ogryn melee hits (among other things), it is now advisable to slap hordes to reset the cooldown of loyal protector and to instead bonk elites and specialists with the club instead. This variant offers reliable overhead strike down heavys, along with a fast L1L2 into a push block attack combo that has high impact all throughout the chain (the Light 3 poke is good for headshotting specials/elites in a pack as well if you just want to spam left click). I personally find myself throwing a L1L2H1 combo for most human sized elites/specialists and straight into heavy attacks for ogryn. You can always weave in a slap for quick CC (Light 1,2 into slap is great horde clear/control).
EDIT: Staying for posterity's sake ;)
