Description
The core premise of this build is to be the backbone of your squad, and get high af while doing so.
With Voice of Command you have stagger and the toughness boost, which is invaluable even after the duration nerf to Duty and Honour, and Smoke Grenade to provide cover for your team during engagements when you aren't moving. I slept on smoke grenades up until trying them earlier this week (I have almost 1k hours now... wtf) and I've been in love with them ever since. Any time you're fighting in a choke point or need some cover, drop a smoke at your feet and it will last THIRTY SECONDS thanks to Grenade Tinkerer! That's half the cooldown of Demolition Stockpile, and combined with Demolition Team, you will be rarely out of grenades entirely, but do be mindful of how many you have and to keep the last one in your pocket for emergencies.
Your main damage dealer is the Recon Lasgun, and this variant allows you to stack burn as well as brittleness with Onslaught in an incredibly short time. Shock Trooper gives you very good ammo efficiency. This lasgun shreds through most targets, elites and specials included, but struggles against Crushers. You can stack the brittleness and burn then go in with the duelling sword, which is your main anti-armour option. When stacking Onslaught with Focus Target!, bosses get melted both by you and the team and as long as you are consistently hitting the weakspots, Precision Strikes will give you even more damage.
As for the smoke grenades, I've experimented with switching Born Leader for Grenadier, for the additional grenade, but having the extra range on your coherency, and therefore voice of command, is more valuable in my experience. It also provides a slight toughness boost to your allies because you will be slaughtering every elite or special that appears on your screen.
If the duelling sword isn't your preference, take something that can deal with carapace effectively. Shovels with the special attack spike could work, but I like the duelling sword because you can one-shot mutants on a charged heavy attack when they are marked with Focus Target!.
