Are You tired of using 'The Build' for Ogryn every single time? Do You want to use something else than the Mk IIIb Bully Club aka 'Bozo Club', 'Toodler Shaker' or 'Macarena Stick'? Do You want to be effective and to be able to have a laugh while doing so?
Well... I have a build just for You! The OG king of the clubs; Mk I now refreshed to fit the current game flow!
TIPS;
1. Range weapon is a personal choice but You should have a quick response one in order to deal with incoming Specials and the fact You will be at the frontlines where Flamers and Trappers will be coming after You
Breakdown of best choices from Top to Bottom Tier:
A) Kickback (Very reactive and heavy stagger makes it very safe to utilize if used correctly; even if it won't kill it will stop the threat from happening. Very underrated and You should give Kicky some love and attention!)
B) Grenade Gauntlet (Good reactiveness and midrange shooting capabilities, its only weakness is that its a projectile type weapon and a relatively long reload. Its special can be used greatly for dense crowds in melee too!)
C) Ripper Guns (Great choice especially when You gonna play agressively into gunner nests thanks to its stagger, reactiveness and Inspiring Barrage blessing (just don't forget to have 66% ammo or less to make it work!); a great alternative to the options above)
D) Heavy Stubber (Too slow to pull out as a reactive weapon but great for dealing with things at range; considering having Indomitable ability instead of Loyal Protector which allows You to have great diving capabilities its a worse option and should be avoided)
E) Rumbler (Too slow and ammo consuming; great for killing Bosses and Reapers but thats it; avoid UNLESS you gonna use Big Friendly Rock then it offsets its reactiveness weakness and becomes better as a whole in the build)
F) Twin Link Stubbers (Too slow, innacurate and ammo consuming to be considered good for this build (unless Achlys is used); avoid)
2. Blitz choice is flexible; can use any! I prefer to use Bombs Away! due to its stagger capabilities and cause its the very first grenade You use as Ogryn for that OG look which pairs nicely with the Mk I Club and Kickback!
3. Why the Mk I Club? Its a classic and best weapon to utilize Haymaker thanks to its moveset without sacrificing killing potential on any field. Severely underrated, this gem stayed in the shadow of other 'easier to use' options for too long!
Single target Combos;
A) Heavy Loop (classic and easy to execute; bread and butter)
B) Heavy - Heavy - Light (Light is the stab that does alot of single target damage and its very fast)
C) Heavy - Special (very fast and similar in power to other combos; not recommended againts Crushers and Bosses cause special does not do much to them)
Horde clear Combos;
A) Light - Heavy (Heavy after the first Light attack turns into a swipe which serves as Haymaker activator as well as more bleed stacks and toughness restoration)
B) Push Attack - Light - Heavy (Push Attack is used to reset the combo/stop the mass from attacking You; can also use Special with less effectiveness in terms of CC)
C) Special - Light - Light (very fast and good in stopping attacking Ragers but not ideal againts mixed hordes than other combos)
4. Mk IIIb Club has better Heavy attacks and You can chain them but you do way less damage againts Carapace; Crushers will be very hard for You to kill without Thunderous blessing (which makes that mark so powerful in the first place since it buffs Armour Damage Modifier (ADM) of the weapon attacks aswell as bleed DoT from Batter talent)
Mk II Club was my original idea to use in this build but after a round of tests its single target damage left much to be desired; You could use Special - Light - Heavy combo but in practical execution it can be clunky and its damage is not ideal either. Another issue is the main reason I choose this mark in the first place for this build; its first Heavy attack which is a swipe. On paper it looked like a perfect fit but cracks began to show in practice - the attack itself is slower than Mk I Club combos and since second Heavy is an overhead and perfect for single targets You have to always execute either that, Light or Special which neither do great damage againts Carapace
5. Haymaker blessing is still considered a niche despite its great potential! The idea of it is to counter high HP pools of enemies and help with horde clear; due to how it works its reliably always at its full power (20% chance to instakill ANY enemy (yes even Mutants; they are considered human-sized) exept Bulwarks, Crushers, Reapers, Captains, Twins and Monsters). The stacks DO NOT decay upon missing/executing other than Heavy attacks and are lost 1 AT A TIME ON A 5 SECOND TIMER! Together with Mk I Clubs moveset and Great Cleaver keystone modifier You can effectively cleave through 3 Maulers (as long as You don't hit the head) and since each enemy hit has a seperate chance to activate Haymaker the more You cleave = the more instakills You can potentially proc! On top of that; despite tooltip stating it won't potentially trigger other effects on instakill (especially for talents that require You to kill the enemy) talents such as Strongman that I used before DID IN FACT TRIGGER ON HAYMAKER ACTIVATION! Dunno about other ones though... hard to test...
6. You can use Loyal Protector if You wish! If You do however I suggest swapping Pumped Up and grey Toughness Damage Reduction node to Strongman/Can't Hit Me...Again/Keep Shooting (if You use Rumbler/Kickback) and grey Toughness Boost node. Grey Rending Boost node will not be required to path down the talent tree so You can use it to get the following suggestions of mine;
- Pumped Up (perfect if You take Can't Hit Me...Again/Keep Shooting)
- Hard Knocks
- Get Stuck In
- Dominate
- Don't Feel a Thing
7. Stay Close! aura is my go to but You can use Bonebreaker's Aura if You wish/have another Ogryn with the same one as You!
Thats about it! I hope You will have fun with this build and detox Yourself from mashing the Meta Club all the time! Embrace the OG!!!
PS. This build made me come back to Ogryn after a long time of not playing it!
