TL/DR:  This is an unrelenting tank, go smash them.

Note:  This is a modified build I saw Exo running, thank you for the inspiration.

Maximizes the use of Loyal Protector.  Take Go Again over Valuable Distraction, with it you can drop Combat Ability Regen from your curios, and this is how the build is so tankie.  One Health and two Toughness curios, with the following perks:  2x toughness, 2x res Gunners, 2x res Bombers, 1x stamina regen, 1x Corruption res, 1x res Sniper (still experimenting with it).

Stagger anything, pure control, boosting everyone's damage through the use of Skullcrusher on the Power Maul (PM).  The Mk II Ripper Gun (RC) can be used to quickly kill ragers and mixed hordes.  However, where it really shines is in controlling the battle field, you can stumble gunners and specials (except Mutants) at any range, though you will need to brace and crouch for longer ranges.  On the Ammo stat of the RG should be 66% or less so that your magazine size is 19.  This ensures that every shot builds stacks of Blaze Away and Inspiring Barrage, because the 10% magazine size is rounded down from 1.9 to 1.  Confident Strike on the PM and Inspiring Barrage on the RC are absolutely required, you need to be constantly regening Toughness.

The passive Slam synergizes nicely with it all giving both increased stagger and stamina.  For temporary protection against ranged and melee I take Can't Hit Me...Again and Focused Fighter respectively.  Too Stubborn To Die is a big boost to survivability.  I'm considering dropping The Best Defense for Pumped Up.

I use the box of grenades to interrupt the enemy, more control.
