Havoc 40 Gunlugger Ogryn Build Guide

This build was designed around a simple idea: if I'm going to play Gunlugger, I want to fully embrace being the biggest, loudest, and most heavily armed thing on the battlefield. Rather than trying to imitate a Veteran or build around gimmicks, I wanted to create an Ogryn that could anchor the team, absorb punishment, and continuously pour out damage while supporting the squad through toughness regeneration, suppression, and elite removal.

The heart of the build is the Gorgonum Mk IV Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber. I chose the Gorgonum because it delivers exceptional damage against the targets that matter most in Havoc. The slower fire rate compared to the Achlys is more than compensated for by its superior damage per shot, ammo efficiency, and ability to consistently remove Crushers, Reapers, Gunners, and other elite threats. The Flak and Carapace perks are specifically chosen because those armour types represent the majority of priority targets in high-level Havoc missions. Every point invested into the Stubber is aimed at making elite enemies disappear before they become a threat to the team.

The blessing combination of Charmed Reload and Blaze Away perfectly complements both the weapon and the overall build philosophy.

Alternatively, Ceaseless Barrage is often underestimated because people focus only on the damage bonus, but the suppression component is equally important. Entire groups of shooters can be forced into cover or interrupted while simultaneously taking increased damage. In practice, this means the weapon isn't just killing enemies; it's actively controlling the battlefield while doing it.

For melee, I run the Karsolas Mk II Delver's Pickaxe . The Stubber already dominates ranged engagements, so my melee weapon is built to solve the problems that eventually make it through the wall of gunfire. The Pickaxe provides exceptional armour penetration, elite killing potential, and some of the highest single-hit damage available to an Ogryn. While many Gunluggers struggle when Crushers, Bulwarks, or Monstrosities force close-quarters combat, the Pickaxe allows me to answer those threats immediately.

Thrust was chosen because it perfectly complements the Pickaxe's heavy attack-focused playstyle. By rewarding fully charged heavy swings with significantly increased damage, it turns the weapon into a devastating tool for deleting Crushers, Bulwarks, Maulers, and Monstrosities. The Pickaxe is already designed around deliberate, high-impact strikes, and Thrust amplifies that strength rather than trying to compensate for a weakness. Confident Strike provides the survivability needed to stay aggressive in melee. Every successful hit generates toughness, allowing me to recover while fighting instead of disengaging. This creates excellent synergy with the Ogryn's naturally high health pool and frontline role, letting me remain in the thick of combat even when surrounded.

Together, Thrust and Confident Strike transform the Pickaxe into more than just a backup weapon. It becomes a reliable answer to heavily armoured targets, a powerful boss-killing tool, and a source of sustained toughness regeneration whenever close combat becomes unavoidable. While the Stubber wins fights at range, the Pickaxe ensures I'm never vulnerable once the enemy reaches me.

The build revolves around Point-Blank Barrage , which serves as the engine that drives everything else. During Barrage, the Stubber gains increased fire rate, faster reloads, additional damage, reduced movement penalties, and significantly improved ammo efficiency. When activated, the build transitions from powerful to overwhelming. Elite packs disappear, bosses melt under sustained fire, and entire engagements can be decided within a few seconds. Rather than treating Barrage as an emergency ability, the build is designed to cycle it as often as possible and aggressively leverage its power throughout the mission.

Bullet Bravado plays a major role in making this possible. Every shot fired during Barrage contributes to toughness regeneration, while reloads provide additional toughness recovery. This allows me to stay in the fight instead of needing to disengage whenever pressure increases. Combined with Light 'em Up, which applies burn stacks during Barrage, the build gains both exceptional survivability and another source of scaling damage. Against bosses and high-health targets, the burn damage becomes a meaningful contributor while the toughness generation allows me to maintain aggressive positioning.

The keystone choice, Burst Limiter Override, was selected because it improves nearly every aspect of the build. Lucky Bullet procs conserve ammunition, increase overall damage output, and create opportunities for additional team support through Bulletstorm. Every free shot contributes to the build's efficiency and helps extend firing windows during long engagements. Back Off! ensures the keystone continues generating value even when forced into melee, while Bulletstorm turns personal damage output into a team-wide damage increase. Maximum Firepower further strengthens the setup by accelerating Point-Blank Barrage cooldown recovery, ensuring that the build's strongest ability is available far more often than its base cooldown would suggest.

Defensively, the build is considerably tougher than many players expect from a Gunlugger. Mobile Emplacement provides a constant 25% damage reduction while firing, which effectively translates into near-permanent mitigation because shooting is the primary activity of the build. Heavyweight is another cornerstone talent, increasing both damage dealt and damage resisted against some of Havoc's most dangerous enemies, including Crushers, Reapers, Bulwarks, and Plague Ogryns. These are exactly the targets that often cause teams to collapse, making Heavyweight one of the most efficient investments available.

Team support was also a major consideration during the build's development. Lynchpin and Stay Close! dramatically increase coherency toughness regeneration, helping both myself and nearby teammates remain combat effective during prolonged engagements. For the Lil'Uns provides additional strength and toughness damage reduction whenever allies lose toughness, meaning the build naturally becomes stronger when situations begin deteriorating. Rather than being a selfish damage-focused setup, it actively contributes to team stability and recovery during difficult moments.

The curios were chosen to reinforce this philosophy. Double Gunner Resistance helps counter one of the most dangerous sources of damage in Havoc, while Ability Regeneration contributes directly to more frequent Point-Blank Barrage activations. Revive Speed was selected because Ogryns are often the safest players to perform revives. As the largest and toughest member of the squad, being able to quickly recover downed teammates often determines whether a run succeeds or fails.

Ultimately, this build isn't trying to top damage charts or chase flashy statistics. Its purpose is to function as the team's anchor. My job is to hold the line, suppress incoming threats, eliminate priority targets, and create breathing room whenever pressure begins to overwhelm the squad. Everything from the talents and blessings to the weapons and curios was selected with that role in mind. The end result is a Gunlugger that combines overwhelming firepower, surprising durability, and meaningful team support into a single package capable of thriving in Havoc 40.
