Description
This is a new build I came up with after seeing someone combine paul and ripper.
Weapon Reasonings:
Achlys Mk I Power Maul: Just a generally enjoyable weapon to me, but also its special attack (and the extra explosion granted by Power Surge) benefit from Big Boom and Fire Away. It is decent at horde control and clear, especially with all the burn procs, and has favorable damage modifiers against basically everything.
Foe-Rend Mk V Ripper Gun: Please note that the Mk V specifically is chosen here, not just any ripper. The Mk V has a special hidden trait: when hip-firing, if at least one pellet hits an enemy, that enemy will take damage as though it had been hit by 5 pellets. This ONLY applies when the weapon is hip-fired, not when braced. Alongside the braced full auto, you have a very versatile weapon that can cover one of ogryn's biggest weaknesses (ranged capability) while also being able to shred up close, especially when combined with Point-Blank Barrage's Light 'em Up modifier.
Curio Reasonings:
Triple toughness (2 toughness 1 health is also good) helps make up for ogryn's surprising fragility, since this build lacks Loyal Protector. The double gunner resist combines with Can't Hit Me...Again to make you extremely resistant to Reaper, Dreg Gunner, and Scab Gunner, which is usually what messes up an ogryn the hardest. Bomber resist also helps keep you alive during those unfortunate scenarios where you cannot close in on bombers to kill them, though again, the Foe-Rend Mk V Ripper Gun can snipe them well.
Toughness regen speed combines extremely nicely with Lynchpin to make you extremely tanky if you have a Skitarius with Resurgence. These effects both increase Resurgence's regen speed.
Corruption resistance is mostly to taste, though it helps deal with tox bomber pits quite well. You could replace it with more ally revive speed (which you should always have on like every ogryn build ever) or more toughness regen speed.
Talent Reasonings:
The top section of the tree is mostly just for keeping you alive. A lot of the damage of this build comes from the fire you spread everywhere, so losing most of the damage nodes up there doesn't hurt as bad.
Bombs Away! and Bigger Box of Hurt are taken to ensure that every enemy hits max fire stacks from Fire Away, and also because it does a lot of base damage and stagger anyway.
Point-Blank Barrage is taken to enhance horde shredding capability and ammo economy, and Light 'em Up effectively also increases ammo economy since you dont have to actually finish every enemy for them to die. Ammo Stash is partially to taste but increases the benefit gained from ammo auras and passives that other classes have as well. Big Boom and Fire Away are the foundation of this build and elevate your Bombs Away! and Achlys Mk I Power Maul from good to unbelievably effective.
Coward Culling is mostly taken for the sake of preserving some talent points but does genuinely go pretty well with the build anyway.
Bruiser and Burst Limiter Override are taken mostly in the name of ammo efficiency, since they both can reduce Point-Blank Barrage's cooldown and also because of lucky bullet.
Dedicated Practice is for quick swapping to your Foe-Rend Mk V Ripper Gun to quickly dispatch distant threats, and Get Stuck In is just absolutely outstanding for your team.
Gameplay:
Typically, you will deal with most threats with your Achlys Mk I Power Maul, saving its special attack for armored targets or particularly dense hordes. Your Foe-Rend Mk V Ripper Gun is used while hip-firing to quickly dispatch distant threats before swapping back to your Achlys Mk I Power Maul, or used in combination with Point-Blank Barrage to give the heretics hell down a hallway. It is worth saving your Bombs Away! for impossibly dense mixed hordes or monstrosities. Stay mobile, stay dodging, and stay aware, and this build can handle just about anything that Auric can throw at it. It is probably fine for at least low to mid havoc, but I haven't tested it there.
Have fun, and I hope you enjoyed my build guide.
