Description
Best Mission Options:
Assassination (Magistrati Oubliette): Highly recommended.
The boss has a massive hitbox and shield, making it incredibly easy to safely dump all your ammo without missing.
The “Kill Order” / Assassination missions in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide are:
Chasm Terminus: Chasm Station HL-16-11 (Traitor Captain Assassination)
The Torrent: Magistrati Oubliette TM8-707 (Traitor Captain Assassination)
Special Assignment: The Orthus Offensive (Rinda & Rodin Karnak Boss Fight)
Strike/Repair Maps: These have long, linear hallways and dense chokepoints where missing a shot into a horde is nearly impossible.
The "Fire Shell" Mechanic: Loading the Kantrael's special incendiary round creates a massive, horizontal cone hitbox.
It is virtually impossible to miss a horde or a boss with this active
Avoid Corpses: Do not shoot enemies your teammates are actively killing, because hitting a dying or dead body counts as a missed shot
Melee: your strongest self-sufficient melee weapon
Ranged: Crucis Mk XI Double-Barrelled Shotgun (lowest ammo), Perks: Unyielding and +Flak or +Maniac, Blessing 1: Both Barrels, Blessing 2: Hit & Run or Terrifying Barrage
Melee: Maccabian Mk IV Duelling Sword, Perks: +Carapace and +Flak, Blessing 1: Thrust, Blessing 2: Uncanny Strike
Curio 1-3: Unchanged. +17 Toughness with 4% Combat Ability Regen, +12% Stamina Regen, +12% Revive Speed (Ally)
Grenade: Krak (for Havoc), Shredder Frag (for penance)
Mission Strategy
Best mission choice: Heresy low intensity, preferably an Assassination mission.
The assassination target gives you a large, predictable enemy near the end of the mission into which you can safely expend remaining ammunition.
During Mission
Tell the group:
“Doing Make Every Shot Count penance - mostly melee, no ammo pickups.”
- Do not pick up ammunition or interact with an ammo crate.
- Fire only at:
- dense hordes at close range;
- ogryns;
- monstrosities;
- the assassination boss;
- immobilized or staggered elites.
- Avoid firing at:
- distant specialists;
- enemies crossing laterally;
- Bulwark shields;
- Pox Hounds;
- barrels or environmental objects;
- enemies partially blocked by teammates.
- Use melee for routine enemies. Do not shoot simply because ammunition is available.
- Begin deliberately expending ammunition during the final event or boss fight.
- Confirm that the HUD shows zero chambered ammunition and zero reserve ammunition before entering extraction.
If Survivalist grants another round after an elite kill, fire it into a close, guaranteed target before leaving.
Accuracy Margin
The penance allows 10% misses, but a low number of shots makes every miss more damaging:
- 10 shots with one miss = 90%
- 9 shots with one miss = 88.9% and failure
Do not treat the 90% requirement casually. Play as though every shot must connect.
The penance is not “locked in” when you first reach zero ammunition and 90%+ accuracy. The conditions are evaluated when the mission completes.
What happens depends on whether you are merely downed or are fully killed:
Downed, then revived: Still eligible; no ammunition is normally restored
Fully killed, then rescued: Ammunition is restored; you must empty it again
Fully killed and awaiting rescue when teammates extract: Do not rely on it counting; likely failure
Entire team wipes: Failure because the mission was not completed
The penance requires completing the mission on Heresy or higher with no ammunition remaining and at least 90% accuracy. It does not say that reaching those conditions earlier in the mission permanently records them.
If you are only downed: Being incapacitated and then revived should not reset your ammunition or accuracy.
If you had:
- zero chambered ammunition;
- zero reserve ammunition;
- at least 90% accuracy;
and revived by a teammate, you should still qualify as long as you do not receive more ammunition before extraction.
A full death moves you into the respawn/awaiting-rescue state. Darktide restores a portion of your ammunition as part of that respawn state—community documentation currently reports approximately 40–50% of maximum ammunition.
If a teammate rescues you, inspect your ammunition display immediately. You will need to:
- Empty the restored reserve.
- Empty the magazine/chamber.
- Avoid further ammo regeneration or pickups.
- Finish the mission with zero again.
Your earlier accuracy is not necessarily lost, but every additional shot used to dispose of the restored ammunition becomes part of the accuracy calculation.
If the team extracts while you remain dead:
The mission can still complete when a teammate is dead or awaiting rescue; dead players are not required for the extraction-zone threshold.
However, I would expect Make Every Shot Count to fail or at least be unreliable in this situation, because your hidden respawn state may already contain restored ammunition. There is no current official Fatshark clarification specifically confirming that a dead player’s ammo state is treated as zero for this penance.
Do not deliberately stay dead and hope the previously achieved zero-ammo state is preserved.
Once you reach zero ammunition:
- stay with the team;
- play conservatively;
- use Voice of Command before dangerous engagements;
- prioritize blocking, dodging and grenades;
- avoid unnecessary attempts to rescue teammates in unsafe positions;
- do not accept an ammo pickup or ammo-crate refill.
If you fully die and are rescued, assume the penance has reset its zero-ammo portion and empty the restored ammunition again before extraction.
