This is an updated version of my last Ogryn build, The Best (Ogryn) Friend. It's old as hell, but it still the same old playstyle that it used to be. Givit a look here if you want as it still contains good info:

https://darktide.gameslantern.com/builds/9ffee8b7-d396-45b2-b8b8-4c6fa4818a45/the-best-ogryn-friend

I've never tried this on "Auric 40," but I'd like to imagine that it can get you that far. I just haven't gotten a lot of opportunities to do high level auric missions.

A TL;DR summary of everything,

Run in (to the front) and attract as much attention as you can while staying alive. You have to rely on your teammates and protect them in the process to win.
______________________________

TL;DR for this section,
MK4 Cleaver for mobility and utility, Pickaxe for better horde clear and damage against armor. Rumbler for breathing room and hordes. Use any gun if Rumbler doesn't fit your style. Teammates will help compensate for your lack of damage

To start off, you can choose between the Krourk Mk4 Cleaver or the Karsolas Pickaxe Mk2 as long as you invest stamina and sprint efficiency, or whatever weapon fits your fancy.

The reasons for the two options:
The Krourk Mk4 Cleaver lets you stab while being mobile with the bonus of its special uppercut attack interrupting armored enemies, specifically Crushers and Maulers, but you can't do jack shit against them when it comes to damage. It's uppercut is great if you need to "reset" their (overhead) swing timers whilst dealing with the horde, or saving a teammate who can't dodge nor block in time.

The Karsolas Mk2 Pickaxe lets you cleave through hordes more easier and can deal with specials more easily compared to the Cleaver, but it's "less" mobile as it swings slower.

Comparing the two when it comes to the max mobility/defense stats or the "additional data" tab,

Krourk Mk2 Cleaver

  • Dodge Limits: 3.00
  • Dodge Distance: -0.50%
  • Dodge Speed: -3.50%
  • Sprint Speed: +0.71
  • Stamina: +4.00
  • Sprint Cost: 1.00/s
  • Push Cost: N/A

Karsolas Mk2 Pickaxe

  • Dodge Limits: 3.00
  • Dodge Distance: -7.00%
  • Dodge Speed: N/A
  • Sprint Speed: +0.12
  • Stamina: +6.00
  • Sprint Cost: 1.21/s
  • Push Cost: 0.88

The only difference that I noticed more between the two stats is the dodge distance and the stamina, so pick and choose your poison. Ironic that the pickaxe gives more stamina than a small hunk of metal.

For your gun, I prefer the Rumbler for more of its utility of explosives. Use whatever perks and curious you want with it—what I have on the build is what I run with it. Your firearm is a wildcard, so go nuts.

Mobility and stamina is the key here,

***as you won't be doing a lot of damage, as your team will compensate that for you instead***
______________________________

TL;DR for this section,
Run ahead and grab everyone's attention while preventing health damage to yourself. Utilize every basic action such as dodging (into enemies), blocking, and pushing into your advantage. Create breathing room for yourself (or others) and stay in the fight longer.

The point of this build is to run ahead and grab the attention of everyone for your team to strike them down, hence the stamina bars and sprint efficiency. I'm not a fan of toughness curios, and opt for stamina instead as the Ogryn's perk tree compensates for that instead. Blocking is needed, and parrying/perfect blocking is CRUCIAL when it comes to bosses and enemies that hit hard like Crushers and Maulers. Stamina is essentially your initiative and savior, so keep some in spare when it comes to the big 'uns. Pushing is also necessary if you need to drag the attention of the enemies away from your teammates (more will be explained later in detail), as well as dodging/dodge sliding. I utilize the Ogryn's passive ability, Outta My Way! (Dodging staggers nearby Non-elite/Specialist, human-sized, enemies) to stagger more enemies or to control the battlefield around me and constantly use it to create breathing room for myself or others.

For your positioning, always stay in the front ahead of the team. You create the initiative for fights and bosses to take the pressure off of your team, or stay amongst them if you want to ensure they're safe. Your weapons are weak, but they're there to keep you in the fight longer for your team to wipe them all out.
______________________________

TL;DR for this seection,
Just follow the perk tree lmao. Keep striking the enemy for damage resistance and push them to restore Feel No Pain . Use Loyal Protector as a utility, either for mobility, recovering toughness quickly, stunning enemies (forcing most enemies to swap to melee), initiating a fight, or catching the bosses attention (Daemonhost specifically if your squad mates fuck up at the last second). Utilize parry/perfect blocks with Unbreakable as shit gets rough.

Now to the meat on the bones, the Perk Tree:

For those who are worried about the lack of Toughness, the Ogryn's perk tree can help maintain and replenish it quickly, as well with the help of the curios and any weapon that can restore more/additional toughness. The real stars of the show that I consider is Too Stubborn to Die, Unbreakable, and Can't Hit Me...Again. These three are the epitome of "Can't keep me down" while in a prison fight (mental image for reference: ) as long as you keep attacking, blocking, and dodging.

The majority of the perks focus on Damage Resistance and Toughness Replenishment, with the Feel No Pain as a cherry on top. All of these should keep you in the fight for longer, even against gunners. The curios all together provide a 60% damage resistance against gunners, adding on Can't Hit Me...Again with an additional 20% when you get shot. With all of the damage and toughness resistance, they'll only trickle your bar down slowly, compared to them stealing your toughess in a short burst. Mind you, you're not completely bulletproof (sadly).

If you've noticed the curios with the revive speed, paired with For the Lil'Uns , it's also your job to keep the team alive. You're screwed if your team is knocked down or dead, so protecting them and keeping them alive is a number 1 priority. Remember,

***YOU BARELY DEAL ANY DAMAGE IN TURN FOR YOUR TEAM TO COMPENSATE FOR THAT!!!***

Feel No Pain and Loyal Protector deserve their own section and explanation in the perk tree section.
I'm not going to do the math for Feel No Pain , as I'm going to dumb it down to It'll keep you alive. Just keep pushing enemies when you notice the stacks at 0.

With the amount of enemies that'll swam you (assuming that it's many or enough to fill a room), Loyal Protector should be ready again after its first use wears off, and if it's during cooldown, utilize Attention Seeker to taunt the enemies instead. Works in tandem with Feel No Pain's pushing to help gain your stacks back. Don't be afraid to use Loyal Protector as a utility, as it'll recharge back.

THEORETICALLY, Go Again! SHOULD WORK WITH ANYTHING THAT'LL STAGGER THE ENEMIES, Loyal Protector , PUSHING, AND ATTACKING, BUT I'M UNSURE AS THE ABILITY MODIFIER SAYS "STAGGERING AN ENEMY" AND NOTHING ELSE!!! IF ANYTHING, Loyal Protector SHOULD GIVE YOU ANOTHER ABILITY CHARGE AFTER ITS FIRST USE, ASSUMING THAT YOU ARE COMPLETELY SWARMED BY ENEMIES. IF ANYTHING, Bruiser SHOULD HELP A BIT!

Loyal Protector has many uses aside from just being a "taunt." It's a crowd control, but with Get Stuck In (+20% mobility, immune to stuns and suppression, applies to teammates as well), it's a great tool for initiating fights or running through enemies to pull them deeper into their lines, which is the main use that I use it for. With this option, you're pulling the attention of the enemy's front lines back to give room for your friends to push in. The enemies should all be grouped up together fighting against you, letting Go Again! proc again or enough to be around halfway after its first use. Think of Loyal Protector as a Emergency Button when the crowds get rough after initiating the fight, not to mention that you gain toughness when you use Loyal Protector, even during its repeats.

With the mobility curios and Get Stuck In, you can be a great carrier for VACUUM CAPSULES, CROYNIC RODS, OR POWER CELLS after using Loyal Protector . I want to say that it's faster than the run slide technique, but I don't know how to prove it. All I can say is that it's fast, but you'll still have to dodge and push enemies back. Get used to pushing enemies as well, since you have plenty of stamina.

And lastly, bosses. Specifically Daemon host. Use Loyal Protector to grab the attention of bosses, and memorize their attack patterns. Block if you can spare the stamina, but for the love of the God Empra, PERFECT BLOCK/PARRY THEIR ATTACKS WITH Unbreakable ! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED AS I'VE NOTICED ENEMY ATTACKS DO NOT DEPLETE A LOT OF STAMINA AND HEALTH!

IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PERFECT BLOCK, BLOCK HALF A SECOND (According to a quick search, 0.3 seconds) BEFORE AN ATTACK LANDS!

IT'LL BE DIFFICULT TO TELL IF Unbreakable PROCCED OR IF "PERFECT BLOCKING" WORKED AS FATSHARK NOW REWORKED WEAPONS WITH Counterattack , Energy Transfer , AND Lightning Reflexes TO NOW FUNCTION WITH BLOCKING INSTEAD OF PERFECT BLOCKING, SO PRACTICE OR GO WATCH A VIDEO (Vermintide perhaps) TO PERFECT BLOCKING!!!

I think this should be all for my explanation of this build for now. It's 3 AM and I'm tired as hell. If there's anything wrong or if I didn't specify anything, please contact me on steam or discord. Should still be the same username as my account here if you have any questions.

Good luck out there folks!
