Intro

This build introduces a playstyle that provides huge monstrosity damage to carry your team while being auric difficulty viable. This is assumed and made as of Patch 15. I'll go over some points on what it provides and what are its weaknesses.

You should play this if you like:-

  • Shred through every enemy especially ogryns ( Even bigger bonus to Plague Ogryns )
  • Watch as any boss health go down
  • Be a moving fortress
  • Regen lots of toughness from shooting during pointblank barrage ability
  • Snowball enemies and become better the more elites and monstrosities exist
  • Shoot a lot of bullets
  • RP as Heavy from Team fortress 2

Don't play this if you don't like to:-

  • Have ammo problems
  • Move slow
  • Bad comp synergy ( explained in the team comp section )
  • Like ripper guns more than Stubbers ( the ammo clip nerf is painful )
  • Manage pointblank barrage cooldown
  • Lose the huge toughness regen from throwing heavy melee attacks
  • Have tunnel vision problems from shooting, lots of bad plays from not realizing you are getting hit in melee.
  • RP as Heavy from Team Fortress 2

Talents

The tree focuses on the pointblank barrage ability while taking the Burst limiter override keystone.

Blitz Frag bomb: Even if you only get one, sometimes you just need to clear the room with a big explosion and revel in the silence post boom with your teammates taking a moment to relax in silence.

Ability Point Blank Barrage: This is your go to whenever you need to whip your Stubber out and start making swiss cheese out of your enemies, it has a 10 second duration with a 80 second cooldown, that's 70 seconds of sad downtime. However we'll be talking about how to reduce this in the keystones and other major talents to make it better! The ability modifiers taken are a must, each bullet gives you 2% toughness regen making you able to take ranged damage and shrugging it off. The other gives burning damage per pullet, that's a lot of extra damage since we'll be shooting a lot, scaling more on ogryns and monstrosities.

Aura Coward Culling: Nice bonus damage for you and your team when your shooting suppresses enemies, teammates that suppress also benefit from this aura.

Keystone Burst limiter override: So 8% chance for bullet to be free, shaves off ability cooldown, and guaranteed for that bullet to be a critical hit. 8% might be a small chance, but you are constantly shooting a lot so it procs more than you think and having a Stubber is a matchmade in heaven.

Here are some Major talents that were taken that compliments the build explained:-

  • Reloaded and ready: You wont be reloading manually but through your ability, which even on full ammo it procs, so the first 6 seconds on your ability has 12% bonus damage.
  • Heavyweight: More damage against ogryns, less damage taken from ogryns, you are the only ogryn that will be left standing.
  • Soften them up: I believe the tooltip is misleading, as it only works when you melee hit, but its not so bad since you'll still be using your melee weapon a lot.
  • Ammo stash: More ammo for your Stubber, more oppurtunity to shoot.
  • Dominate: Rending on elite kill for 10 seconds, you'll have this up when swapping to different elites giving you the extra oomph against armored parts.
  • Get stuck in: Gives your pointblank barrage a use to be used defensively, for example your team are being swarmed by gunners you could give everyone time to reposition, while you are going all dakka dakka on their heretic smug faces.
  • Bruiser: Use pointblank barrage, kill elite, get pointblank barrage back, use another pointblank barrage, repeat.
  • Massacre: You get 8% extra critical hit chance.

Weapons

Gorgonum Mk IV Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber paired with a melee of your choice is recommended for this build, I'll be listing some alternatives in both sections to suit your playstyle.

Ranged weapon

Mark 4 Stubber, the big boy damage thats pretty much every heretics biggest fear when being wielded by an ogryn with no thought but only to purge in the name of the emperor. Your modifier dumpstat would be collateral as you need all the others close to 80% as possible.

Perks:

  • Unyielding Enemies: This falls under ogryns and all monstrosities but not crushers, mandatory perk as you dont need bonus damage for the others since they die too fast and without effort.
  • Increase Ranged Critical Strike Chance: Even more crit? Yes please!
  • Other perks: I got increased ranged critical damage due to rng, it helps give your critical bullets a little oomph to it, but having extra chance is just a way more better option if you could get it.

Blessings:

  • Charmed reload: is the reason you need the critical chance from your perk and talents, you'll be shooting forever and give you enough ammo to keep shooting until your pointblank barrage comes back, in which you'll refill your ammo again and start shooting again, no need to reload ever again!
  • Overwhelming fire: Provides you the bonus damage you need to keep killing enemies that dont die within 4 hits, which is elites and monstrosities!

An alternative weapon with the same perks and blessings would be the mark 7 achlys stubber due to the recent buff, this can add overall speed since its so fast to swap to it and shoot with amazing stability and range, though it eats more ammo and has less damage. Rippers are not recommended to be run with the keystone as its ammo count is too low for it to be useful.

Your overall critical chance comes to Weapon perk ( up to 5% ) + Massacre talent ( 8% ) + Ogryn base crit ( 3%* ) These dont even account for the 8% burst limiter override which gives you guaranteed critical chance!.

*As of patch 13, Base crit from classes that were 5% were all changed to different values and I believe ogryn is under that amount now due to the addition of additional critical chance accessable through talents.

Melee weapon

Mark 4 knife, another choice of mark 4 that I like due to the animation of the swings, just because your talent revolves around using a gun, doesn't mean you get to neglect your melee weapon. It lacks the good toughness regeneration that your heavy provides from grabbing the top left talent points, but nonetheless you get to knife your way to victory. Dumpstat for your modifier is going to be mobility, if you can make it 60% thats good enough to gain an extra dodge but don't worry about it if its lower to not stress yourself out trying to interact with the rng of the crafting system.

Perks:

  • Flak Armoured Enemies and Unarmored Enemies: both of these gets rid of all gunners making you kill them faster, it also helps against scab ragers and grenaders.
  • Other perk: Maniac to replace unarmored if you have issues with mutants and dreg ragers.

Do not get carapace as the knife just is bad against them, just swap to your Stubber and they just die from that.

Blessings:

  • Slaughterer: You get a stacking power every time you get a kill, the heretic gets a swift emperors death one after the other.
  • Confident Strike: Every time you hit, that's 8% toughness being regenerated. A needed blessing to withstand the horde of heretics.

Single target combo: Spamming light attacks offers the most damage as it hits quick and is pretty strong, you can throw in the occasional heavy 1 attack if you need to stagger an enemy to stop it.

Multi target combo: Heavy 2 into a light attack looping is your go to for the best to cleave multiple enemies. There's two ways to get to heavy 2 attack, you can either throw three light attacks then you use heavy, or you can use pushblock attack into heavy, use accordingly if you need to create space and stagger enemies.

Other weapons include the bull butcher mark 3 knife with its nice light attack spam for everything, the club of your choice like the mark 3b bully club as it has good multi and single target, mark 1 club is best for single but not recommended with this build. Shovel is also amazing with its huge stamina that it provides for blocking and pushing with good sweeps.

Curio

I believe that the beefcake that you are with the perk of having an extra wound by default over the other classes, triple health just makes you so big that you can hit 500+ health to withstand hits when your toughness is depleted. Alternatively you can replace a health% for extra toughness if you feel that you can be sure you won't get hit in melee as more health can make being hit in melee more forgivable. For subperks there is many options, however I have found that ogryn stamina regeneration is so slow that I feel that having stamina regeneration on the perks is the only thing I can recommend. The others could be more health%, more toughness%, bonus ordo dockets, block efficiency, revive speed ally, damage resistance against gunners since its so easy to be shooting a huge hunk of meat like yourself. For combat ability regen, pointblank barrage benefits the most since it has a huge cooldown, but I didn't feel the need to have it on myself.

Team comp

Mandatory team member:

  • Veteran: Specifically survivalist aura for that juicy bonus ammo every time someone kills an elite or specialist. You will be very weak when you are out of ammo, dancing between ranged and melee whenever you need to use or regain ammo is going to make or break your team. Also you wont have to compete for a grenade pickup as they have their every minute regen, a veteran will gladly point you towards a grenade box for the great ogryn.

Good team member:

  • Psyker: Having a shield that offers toughness regen and toughness damage reduction when it expires can grant you the space needed to gun down the heretics, it also helps protect you from trappers and nurgle beast puke, so feel free to just laugh whenever they fail their attempts to stop them from being shredded by a handsome ogryn like yourself. If a psyker runs crit aura and smite with shield, that's the perfect combo. However they run ability cooldown reduction aura which is still fine to help with the long cooldown of pointblank barrage.
  • Zealot: Perhaps the only class other than another ogryn that would compete for a grenade box, however the amount of power they bring to a team whether its the holy relic to give everyone toughness and space, to the strong melee they can provide to take out high priority threats can make your job less stressful.

Bad team member:

  • Reliant on ammo: This is the greatest and biggest weakness of your build, a marksman veteran or one that runs fireteam instead of survivalist aura, a zealot that wont stop wasting ammo and forgoes the reason to play a zealot which is their strong melee, a cool gun psyker that needs a lot of ammo, emperor help you if another ogryn with the same build shows up. Due to the nature of solo queue, this is a very bad build to run, as you'll be out of ammo and you'll lose your tools that make you strong.

Conclusion

I believe this build can be exceptionally strong with the correct premade team that can take your power one step further, it feels amazing and is played best in missions that has a lot of monstrosities spawn or the strength to stop an accidental ( or unaccidental ) Demonhost that would otherwise end your mission early. Thanks for reading and make sure to thank the emperor for every bullet he has blessed that goes through the heretics.
