Get into the fray and start charging heavy attacks.
Mix in pushes with the shield to taunt enemies away from team mates.
Snipe specials (bombers, snipers, flamers) with the Gauntlet, even muties go down after two shots.
When there's too much on the screen, pull out the grenades and throw them somewhere 'takktikal'.
Side note about the Gauntlet:
It's a really cool hybrid weapon and it is not to be underestimated in close combat, especially the heavy attack. You have to be good at dodging to the sides since there's no block, but there's a boom-button instead (boom!)
2x Toughness + 1x Max Health Curio.
Max out resistance to gunners and then fill in with the specials you are most allergic to.
I like to add +ability cooldown reduction so that Loyal Protector can be there in all situations, even though Just Getting Started and pushing with the shield will probably get you there anyways.
Synergies with Towering Presence and Lynchpin will greatly increase survivability.
The same is true for Delight In Destruction that is applied by heavy shield attacks from Batter.
Payback is great since it will buff your damage passively (getting hit is part of being a big boi!)
Loyal Protector with Just Getting Started is the key ability to this build and it can be used to stop charging muties, redirect enemies from wounded team mates and help Skullcrusher (blessing) get going.
Shield: Brutal Momentum for those heavy attacks will do wonders in groups of enemies. Skullcrusher can be applied by pushing with the shield or using Loyal Procector.
Gauntlet: Pinpoint Target and Blast Away are both there to boost the ranged sniping. Big Boom talent helps stagger specials in vicinity of blast zone.
