Description
PREFACE:
Recon Lasguns aren't inherently all that respectable for contending with heavier Armor (especially Carapace); this configuration serves to remedy that to as high a degree as possible. Essentially, with this configuration you can heavily rely on your Recon Lasgun for almost everything except crowde-control.
GENERAL TACTICS:
- Your primary role is using your Recon Lasgun to delite Elites and Specials. Apply 'Focus Target' on more tanky enemies. Pretty simple.
- Don't use your Lasgun on hordes. Please. Use Frag Grenades and 'Voice of Command' further enhance your survivability and crowde-control when being swarmed.
WEAPONRY - RECON LASGUNS:
- You might notice the lack of the popular Blessing 'Infernus', which is typically revered as an ideal option on Recon Lasguns. Bafflingly, this is despite it being objectively sub-par. In actuality, it is only genuinely valuable against Monstrosities, affording only a vaguely discernible DPS boost against enemies like Reapers, Bulwarks, and Mutants, but again, it's negligible. Against everything else, it's entirely ineffectual. Ultimately, only bother incorporating 'Infernus' if contending with Monstrosities is a priority for you, and even then, the benefits are sincerely not stellar.
- The Mk Vld Recon Lasgun is simply the best variant. The popular, faster-firing, Mk Vlla's only advantage is the rate at which it can apply stacks of 'Infernus', but as noted in the previous segment, said Blessing isn't actually particularly valuable. More importantly, the Mk Vlla is notably less ammo-efficient than its brethren, so this Build's lack of 'Shock Trooper' renders it a less-than-ideal choice. Oh, yeah, the Mk ll... It's fine. Whatever.
WEAPONRY - MELEE:
Given that this build doesn't really spec into Melee-enhancement, you want to utilize a weapon that inherently affords respectable Mobility (which equals survivability via Dodge prowess), and caters to crowde-control (via Cleave and/or Attack Speed).
- Mk Vll SAPPER SHOVEL: This weapon is pretty much exceptional at everything. Doesn't require Skill Tree enhancements. The Blessings and Perks employed in this build serve to maximize crowde-control.
- CADIA Mk Xlllg CHAINSWORD: Affords very solid crowde-control along with respectable damage-output against armoured targets. Doesn't require Skill Tree enhancements.
- STANDARD ISSUE SAPPER SHOVEL: Not absolutely top-tier, but I still love this weapon. Excellent crowde-control while still viable against Armor.
CURIOS:
- Why two Stamina Curios (you can go for three)? Two reasons. The first reason is that Stamina equals survivability; simply put, you can Block more attacks before it exhausts. Coupe with 'Block Efficiency' Perks, you'll be far more resilient. The second reason is that it benefits 'Deadshot', catering to extra Crit.-output. Seriously, you should almost always incorporate at least on Stamina Curio into your builds. I'll often run three on Vet builds that employ 'Deadshot'.
- 'Block Efficiency': See the above segment.
- 'Stamina Regeneration': Should be obvious by now. I run all three on most builds.
- 'Ability Regeneration': This perk is monumentally useful for most builds. It's universally stellar.
- 'Sprint Efficiency': In service of repositioning and maintaining distance from enemies (which are important functions for Ranged-centric builds), this perk allows for more routine use of Sprint without as readily detracting from the benefits of 'Deadshot'.
- Wounds are trash. Unless you're a Martyrdom Zealot, do yourself a favor and don't build for failure.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
- Lacking 'Shock Trooper', this build isn't absolutely optimized for ammunition-retention, but it's still rather efficient given 'Survivalist'. If you're for some reason struggling with ammunition, you could swap 'Reciprocity' for 'Shock Trooper' at the expense of Melee prowess.
- A public service announcement regarding 'Shock Trooper' - It sucks on anything except the Recon Lasguns. With all other Lasgun variants, don't bother, as it's ammo-yield is hot garbage. The only reason it's viable with Recon variants is their inherent double-Crit. mechanic.
