PREFACE:

Any of my builds with titles starting with "4-DAD" are just that... they're builds designed for my father, who is in his mid-70's, and as one might expect given his generation, relatively new to gaming. Although he's surprisingly decent at Darktide (even holding his own on Damnation), he still experiences some measure of difficulty with certain mechanics, along w/ other aspects of gameplay. Accordingly, these '4-DAD' builds are tailored to compensate for said skill deficits (no offense dad).

Although I wouldn't personally run this exact build, despite it being constructed for the aforementioned reasons, it's still perfectly viable for anyone newer to the game. In fact, it's ben thoroughly tested on Auric Damnation.

Okay father, let's jump into it...

THE BUILD:

Basically, you're role is as the guy who, using your Plasma Gun, murders any high-priority, more resilient targets that pose a threat to the team. That said, you're still more than capable of holding your own in Melee combat. In addition, you also afford respectable team-support in various other respects.

USING YOUR PLASMA GUN:

  • In most scenarios, you don't need to bother ADS-ing. In fact, just hip-firing is typically more effective.

There are two basic scenarios scenarios wherein you'll want to bust out your Plasma Gun...

  • Elites & Specials: Whenever you see more threatening enemies like Crushers, Maulers, Ragers, etc., just use your gun's basic hip-fire function and blast them away.

  • Hordes: When a horde of lesser enemies is charging your position (especially when funneled), it's still rather practical to use your Plasma Gun on them. Given the weapon's inherent Cleave, you can kill many enemies in succession with ONE SHOT. That said, if lesser horde enemies aren't tightly packed, or if you're being engulfed from multiple angles, switch to Melee.

  • Monstrosities: You want to be on the lookout for red Stims, as they significantly enhance your damage-output. Accordingly, save and use red Stims for engaging Monsters w/ your Plasma Gun; they'll go down surpisingly fast.

  • Remember, you have to BOTH reload and "quell" the heat of Plasma Guns (similar to the Psyker mechanic you're familiar with).

TEAM SUPPORT NODES:

  • 'Covering Fire': When you use your Plasma Gun to kill an enemy, teammates within five meters said target receive both resilience and damage-ouput buffs.

  • 'Field Improviation': With this Node, Ammo Crates also afford you and your team Grenades, Medi-Packs Heal much faster, cleanse Corruption (the purple "health-bar" segments) & Replenish 1% Toughness per second.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Make sure your Plasma Gun is reloaded between fights.

  • As with the other Vetern builds you're already familiar with, use your Shout routinely, which really enhances you and your teams' survivabilty. It's especially useful for intense, Melee oriented scenarios, reviving teammates, etc..
