Description
(If you would like more Health then feel free to drop one +17% Toughness Curio for a +21% Health Curio but keep the perks the same)
Very simple premise here. Beat the hordes back with Slab Shield heavy attacks and decimate any unfortunate Monstrosity that waddles over with a fiery hail of bullets.
FATSHARK in their infinite wisdom decided to make some changes to Ogryn's Talent tree.
- I do not like it.
- It is stinky
- Will actively make Skullbreaker Ogryn an even more played subclass
- Will put Kickback users on suicide watch
- Why has God Emperor abandoned us?
That said, with the changes made, you now have the choice between Big Boom and Ammo Stash. I would personally stick with Ammo Stash for the ammo efficiency. Without Ammo Stash you will have 676 rounds in total and only receive 81 rounds from a small ammo box (as opposed to 810 rounds in total and 101 rounds from a small ammo box).
Most of the game will be spent with the Slab Shield equipped and occasionally whipping out the Achlys Heavy Stubber to deal with ranged threats or massive chaff hordes.
For blessings, Skullcrusher is taken on the Slab Shield for general damage, but you can swap it out for Opportunist if you value armor damage more.
+25% Damage (Unrelenting) is unnecessary on the Achlys Heavy Stubber to kill bosses. See below for reasoning.
The idea for Point Blank Barrage is solely for massive Monstrosity damage (absolutely insane with a +25% Damage Red Combat Stim although not necessary, +20% Attack Speed Blue Celerity Stim is a good second option if its all you've got) or heavy horde clear. You will solo kill any Damnation Monstrosity or Daemonhost with 1 full drum of Stubber ammo (139 rounds) which is pretty great considering that a small ammo pack gives you 101 ammo back. The combined Toughness Regen of Steady Grip and Bullet Bravado allows you to face tank nearly all damage when bracing and mag-dumping your Stubber, just hold the trigger while aiming until what you are shooting is dead. Thanks to Soften Them Up, If you can remember to do a melee attack on the target using the Achlys Heavy Stubber's Special Action Bash before unloading your lead fury upon it, that will further decrease your TTK but it is unnecessary.
The setup looks like this:
- Hear Monstrosity spawn
- See Monstrosity
- Use Combat Stim (Red one) or Celerity Stim (Blue one) If you have it.
- Use ability
- Aim Stubber and hold trigger down
- PROFIT
If you would rather have a build that will help clear crowds faster at the cost of cooldown reduction on elite kill for Point Blank Barrage, drop Get Stuck In and Bruiser for Payback Time and your choice of either the +25 Toughness node or Big Boom.
If you would rather have a build that will help keep Point Blank Barrage on a shorter cooldown, then keep the build as is for the additional cooldown reduction on elite kills. This will be better to take on most missions with modifiers like Shock Troop Gauntlet.
Dropping Payback Time is a steep cost however. 20% damage is quite a good chunk of damage to miss out on. It activates on block as well, meaning you don't actually need to take either health nor toughness damage to activate it.
Attention Seeker is mandatory. Its too good when paired with the Slab Shield to forego taking it. It allows you to block all lesser gunner (the puny lasrifle gunners) and Shotgunner enemy ranged attacks which will then "Taunt" them, therefore forcing them to swap to melee and approach you. This helps ease the burden of gunner fire on the team and gets the enemy closer for you to pound them into green goo. It also forces Snipers to enter a tantrum. When blocking a Sniper shot, they will resort to literally kicking the air for all 8 seconds that Attention Seeker is active. This gives you time to reposition, mark the sniper for an ally to kill, or to just swap to the Stubber and hose em' down. An incredible utility that I firmly believe should always be on a Slab Shield build.
Frag Bomb is the Frag Bomb... its an excellent utility. Either toss it at a group you no longer wish to see, or clear a downed friend so they can hopefully be picked up and get back in the fight.
This build just works. Mountains of toughness for being knee deep in heretics and enough toughness generation to choke a Zealot. Boss damage that is on par or better than other boss killers. You will thrive in most situations with little resistance. Bulwarks in a pack can pose an issue, so feel free to light them up with Point-Blank Barrage to apply fire to them through their shields or just drop the sun on their laps (Frag bomb).
Have fun and be well! <3
THIS BUILD WAS TESTED ON MULTIPLE DAMNATION AURIC MAELSTROMS AND WAS CONSISTENTLY TOP DAMAGE AND KILLS IN BOTH BOSS AND LESSER ENEMIES. THIS IS NOT TRUE/DUO OR TRUE/SOLO TESTED.
