The cover image is a shitpost, just ignore it. Generalist Scrier's Gaze build effective at everything with a good blend of choppy and shooty. Ammo-efficient, and only really struggles versus Bulwarks and packs of Crushers, but not by much.
Smite is to be used sparingly. Generally, you want to be killing things rather than stunlocking them, but Smite is good in scenarios where your team is about to get backed up into a corner for a couple of seconds, or if there's a group of Bulwarks. Never smite for more than a couple of seconds at a time, or rely on it. It's a backup tool - expect to go missions without using it once, that's normal.
Pop Scrier's Gaze whenever a fight starts. During extended fights, you can expect to keep it lasting throughout the whole thing. I find it lasts for 30+ seconds in almost every big fight = this is through a big combination of Tranquility Through Slaughter and By Crack of Bone. You will usually be able to get the cooldown back in time before your leftover buff runs out, thanks to Psykinetic's Aura. Stick to melee for most things, and close the distance to ranged enemies if you can - keep your gun in your pocket to whip out for specialists or large groups of gunners or reapers. If you can aim for the head consistently, your TTK and ammo efficiency will be excellent.
Moonlight Greatsword special attack is worthless without any stocks, usable versus trash mobs at one stock, and can deal significant damage to Ragers and Maulers at two stocks. 0-stock wave has a niche use where you can fling it through a wall to knock a Pox Hound off a teammate.
