RIPgryn
A slight modification of the Leadbelcher build from the sacred Ogrynomicon, focusing on the very flexible Ripper Mk 5: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3044646170
The main thing I was looking for from this build is good survivability and effectiveness against ranged & specialists at a distance - as it's hard to rely on quickplay PUGs to protect you, without sacrificing your effectiveness or survivability up close.
Playstyle:
Cleaver Mk III is a great horde-clear weapon and with Confident Strike , you will be nearly invincible as long as you have stuff in melee range to hit. Essentially wack away at anything in melee range, then swap to the Ripper Mk V as you come across ranged enemies or clusters of elites.
Generally, unbraced bursts can be used to take out single enemies or small clusters very quickly, but braced firing will take care of large clusters of enemies & elites, or allow you to easily "snipe" enemies at a long distance. With Steady Grip + Mobile Emplacement , you will have great durability while bracing - allowing you to ignore a few poxwalkers or bullets an focus on what you want to kill. Also lets you go toe-to-toe with gunners without having to worry too much about ducking to cover.
The special attack of the Ripper + the Can Opener perk make short work of heavily armored enemies like Crushers, Maulers, and Ragers. You can easily stab a single Crusher to death, or get a single stab in then finish them off with an unbraced burst or swap to your Cleaver.
Point-Blank Barrage can be used reactively as an "oh shit" button, to clear enemies if you find yourself in trouble. However, it's great to use it proactively to deal with large groups of elites like crusher/mauler/rager/bulkwark packs. It's also extremely effective against bosses. Throw a grenade box at the boss, get up close, activate, and fire away unbraced. Generally, unbraced fire will make the most effective use of this ability - but you still have to manage the recoil. Braced fire can be effective if you want to take out a group of enemies at range - for example, if a teammate managed to get stuck in the middle of a Crusher orgy. Throwing a grenade just before activating the ability works great to maximize damage & stagger.
Options:
Cleaver Mk III: I like this specific weapon for it's great horde-clear & toughness regen, however the Bully Club Mk IIIb is a great alternative - slightly less good at horde-clear & toughness regen, but much more effective against elites and armor. Also - Savage Sweep can be swapped for Slaughterer for consistently higher damage, at the cost of less effective horde-clear, or for Thrust to improve the effectiveness of your overhead heavy attack against elites.
Ripper Mk V: Really, you can swap this out for any ranged weapon you want - but I find this to be the perfect balance of close ranged and long range effectiveness, and very quick response time against specialists or gunners. If you want to use the Rumbler or Kickback, checkout the Siegebreaker build in the Ogrynomicon linked above.
Light 'em Up: Can swap this for Hail of Fire . I find Light'em Up handles bosses & large groups of enemies a bit more consistently, especially if you have Bulwarks in the mix.
Back Off! : Can swap for Bulletstorm for some fairly consistent extra damage. I like Back Off! For the better ammo economy, so I can use my ranged more often, without worrying as much about being greedy with ammo.
Reloaded and Ready : I find myself reloading often enough that this has decent-ish uptime and provides a nice damage boost - especially useful during Point-Blank Barrage, to make up for reload downtime. However, not as useful as with a single-round clip like Kickback or Rumbler, so a good alternative is Unstoppable Momentum , to help you keep up with the group if you find yourself being left behind after bracing to pick off ranged enemies. Another option is Concentrate , however, this will likely reduce the uptime of Pumped Up , which is a powerful damage reduction.
