Subject: Precinct-Fortress Defense Protocol / Attrition
Status: Unyielding
When the cults rise and the Moebian Sixth breach the hab-blocks, the Astra Militarum holds the line. But when that line inevitably breaks, the Adeptus Arbites do not. This build is designed around a single, unbreakable truth: the Lex Imperialis does not flinch. Built for absolute frontline dominance, this setup transforms you into a walking bulwark of Imperial law. You are not here to sprint ahead or chase glory; you are here to lock down the horde, stagger elites into submission, and weather the worst the heresy can throw at you. With your Cyber-Mastiff at your side to isolate high-value targets, this build ensures that no matter how deep into Tertium you descend, you dictate the flow of combat.
I. The Executioner's Arsenal (Weapons & Gear)
Primary Armament: Shock Maul & Suppression Shield
The immovable object and the swift verdict.
The single greatest vulnerability of any frontline Arbitrator is sustained, high-caliber ranged fire from embedded Reapers and entrenched Gunners. This armament entirely nullifies that threat. By advancing behind the ballistic bulk of the shield, you dictate the geometry of the engagement, absorbing punishing fusillades and forcing the enemy to fight on your terms.
When the gap is closed, your role shifts from mobile cover to relentless crowd control. You are the conductor of the frontline's flow. Utilizing a calculated rotation of heavy sweeps, crushing shield pushes, and the shield's blinding flashbang special, you systematically disorient, stagger, and shatter the heretic horde, creating the vital breathing room your strike team needs to operate.
Secondary Armament: Bolt Pistol
The Arbitrator's summary judgment.
While your shield and maul anchor the frontline and your Cyber-Mastiff runs down distant threats, there are moments in the crush of melee when a high-priority Elite steps into the fray and requires immediate, overwhelming force. The Bolt Pistol is your quick-draw execution tool. It is designed to be snapped up in a heartbeat to blow a hole through a Special, before instantly returning to your shield guard.
While the Bolt Pistol is the preferred instrument of the Lex for this doctrine, the Departmento Munitorum allows for operative discretion. A Zarona Revolver or an Exterminator-pattern Shotgun serve equally well in this quick-swap, high-impact role. Choose the tool that best fits your grip.
II. Dictates of the Lex (Talents & Curios)
An Arbitrator’s greatest weapon is not the maul in their hand, but their unbreakable resolve. This talent configuration entirely abandons the pursuit of raw kill counts, investing instead into absolute survival and battlefield manipulation. You are not built to bleed the enemy dry. You are built to outlast them.
Augmetics & Wards (The Curios) To hold the line, your physical tolerances must be pushed beyond baseline human limits.
- Primary Stat (3x Toughness): Stacking maximum Toughness turns you into an ablative fortress. When your shield is down and you are swinging the maul, this massive Toughness pool buys you the time needed to trigger your melee replenishment before taking actual health damage.
- Sanctioned Perks (+Toughness / Damage Resistance: Gunners): Layering extra Toughness and Gunner resistance ensures that even if you are caught out of position by a firing squad, you have the kinetic dampening to raise your shield before being shredded.
- Tactical Flexibility (+Health / Revive Speed / Cooldown Reduction): While extra Health provides a solid safety net, operative discretion allows for faster Ally Revival (for rapid team extractions under fire) or Cooldown Reduction (to keep your abilities primed).
Tactical Ordinance: Voltaic Mines (Blitz)
Total area denial.
Since your primary role is controlling the geometry of the fight, Voltaic Mines are your most essential tool for dictating where the enemy is allowed to step. When a horde threatens to overwhelm a chokepoint, throwing these down halts their momentum dead in its tracks. More importantly, it allows you to cordon off an area to safely revive a downed operative or lock down a Servitor objective without being interrupted by stragglers.
Pack Cohesion: Part of the Squad (Aura)
The Cyber-Mastiff is not merely a hunting beast; it is a sanctioned operative of the Lex. This Aura integrates the Mastiff directly into your team's coherency, broadcasting a passive 7.5% Damage Reduction to the strike team. You and the hound form an unbreakable anchor, reinforcing the frontline just by standing in it.
Combat Doctrine: Break the Line (Ability)
When the pressure becomes too great or the enemy formation needs to be shattered, you do not retreat. You push through. This ability allows you to violently disrupt the horde's center of mass, throwing elites off-balance and giving your team the opening they need to pour fire into the breach.
Sanctioned Keystone: Forceful
The defining capstone of your crowd-control philosophy. This Keystone magnifies the sheer physical weight of your strikes and shield bashes. It ensures that when you swing into a mixed horde, everything from standard Poxwalkers to heavy Ragers gets thrown off-balance.
III. Frontline Doctrine (Playstyle & Positioning)
You do not survive the frontline by hiding; you survive by dictating its boundaries.
The core philosophy of this build is aggressive intervention. You are not a passive shield-bearer waiting for the enemy to come to you. You are the vanguard. When a horde breaches a sector, your immediate objective is to rush the absolute front of the formation and become the immovable anchor.
Your strike team is your execution squad. They possess the raw damage required to purge the room, but they cannot do so if they are constantly dodging and fighting for their lives. Your primary duty is to peel the maximum amount of threat away from them. By absorbing the hordes momentum, you allow your team the safety and structure they need to comfortably delete the horde from behind your shield wall.
The Combat Loop
Holding the line requires a highly structured, relentless rhythm. You command the space by weaving together crushing shield pushes to stagger the front ranks, followed by a punishing sequence of light and heavy maul strikes to break their posture completely. If the pressure threatens to break your stamina, you deploy your Voltaic Mines to cordon off the area or trigger Break the Line to violently reset the geometry of the fight.
The Lex Execution Hierarchy (Target Priority)
In the chaos of a mixed horde, your strikes and your Cyber-Mastiff must be directed with cold, calculated precision. You process threats through a strict execution order:
- Priority Extremis (Incapacitators): Trappers and Pox Hounds. These are the only targets that can instantly dismantle your frontline structure by removing you or a teammate from the equation. The moment one is spotted, it must be intercepted. This is where your Mastiff excels. Send the Mastiff to lock down a distant Trapper while you hold the melee line.
- Priority Majoris (Heavy Armor): Crushers, Bulwarks, and Maulers. Once the incapacitators are handled, you pivot your heavy maul strikes toward the enemy's own frontline. You do not necessarily need to kill them instantly. You just need to stagger them out of their attack animations so they cannot instantly crush your teammates.
- Priority Secundus (Area Denial & Frenzy): Bombers and Ragers. Bombers threaten the stationary nature of your shield wall, and Ragers will attempt to overwhelm your block with volume of attacks. A quick swap to your Bolt Pistol is often the most efficient way to break a Rager rush or execute a Bomber before they throw.
- Priority Tertius (The Chaff): Standard Poxwalkers and Groaners. The remaining dregs are simply managed through your standard push-and-sweep rotation until the room is silent.
By combining the impenetrable defense of the Shock Maul & Shield, the localized lockdown of the Voltaic Mines, and an uncompromising dedication to team survival, you ensure that the Lex Imperialis stands firm in the darkest depths of Tertium.
