Description
A build for people who enjoy the Weapons Specialist playstyle and want to maximise damage with the Achlys Mk VI Power Sword. Supplementing that is a heavy emphasis on AoE damage thanks to juiced up Shredder Frag Grenade and the M35 Magnacore Mk III Plasma Gun.
On the melee side of things we're running basically all the melee juice we can, favouring damage talents that work for both of our weapons such as Skirmisher, Exploit Weakness and Agile Engagement. To offset the significant movement penalties of the Powersword we are running both Duck and Dive and Close and Kill. This gives us an innate 12.5% move speed which massively improves the Powersword user experience. The Melee Specialist of Weapons Specialist also helps with this by enhancing our dodge template. On top of that we have a close to permanent 25% attack speed from both Melee Specialist and Trench Fighter Drill. Combine all of this with classic damage boosts Precision Strikes, Desperado, Slaughterer and the 15% Melee Damage node, and you can output a truly sickening amount of melee damage.
The other side of the build focuses on AoE damage. As mentioned we run Shredder Frag Grenade with all 3 upgrade nodes to get the abolute most out of them damage wise, supported by Demolition Team to keep us consistently replenished.
The Ranged Specialist part of Weapons Specialist is used primarily to guarantee a Critical Hit First shot with the M35 Magnacore Mk III Plasma Gun. The Ranged Attack speed buff also helps with charge time for the fully charged big shot. You will want to play this weapon like a Psyker peril maxing: With 70% thermal resist on the Plasma you will be able to vent once at 100% to go to 79% and be able to fully charge and fire a shot without Exploding. This also means you will be getting the maximum benefit from both Rising Heat and Gets Hot!.
The plastyle of the M35 Magnacore Mk III Plasma Gun is a little different from it's brother. As our charged shots have no cleave, we are essentially using this weapon like Grenade Launcher. Fire it into densely packed blobs of enemies and reap the rewards. A single well placed charged shot from this weapon can do enormous damage, especially when all your buffs are up. This gun also synergises beautifully with Out for Blood due to the big explosion.
Of course, there is a trade off here: sniping Specialist enemies is a bit hard due to the afforementioned lack of cleave, but this is a small trade off compared to the density busting power of the weapon.
This is primarily a melee first build, so be sure to keep that in mind.
There is one flex node in the build: Reciprocity. In most other builds this great talent for universally increasing Crit chance, but there's an argument for taking it off here. Our Powersword base crit rate is 20%. Our Plasma's base crit rate will on average be in the 50 or 60%s. So basically Reciprocity is mostly helping our Powersword, taking it from 20% to 45% crit rate at max stacks. This is potentially overkill.
If not running Reciprocity, I would recommend either Born Leader or Only In Death Does Duty End. The former is a fantastic little enabler for keeping our team topped up of toughness. The latter offers clutch revives in potential wipe situations. In all honesty you may get more bang for your buck with one of these. There's an argument as well for Volley Adept but I haven't found I've needed it. As we're not spamming Plasma, there's usually sparse moments of calm where you can get a reload off safely.
Happy hunting.
