Description
If you'd like an aggressive shield Ogryn which focuses more on Crowd Control rather than Survivability this one is for you.
The main purpose of this build is to spam fast heavy attacks using the slab shield, combining good to infinite cleave, very good Crowd Control, decent to low damage and overall excellent survivability for you and your team mates. Remember to engage in melee any group of elite or mixed horde because you can stagger indefinitely any group of enemies, so diverge the attention on you by either using your ability "Loyal Protector" or by pushing whatever is threatening your friends. Stick with your team for maximum effectiveness and boosts.
Keep in mind the reason this build works is thanks to it's CC / fast stagger, not the damage on hit: whatever is in front you, you can indefinitely keep it staggered with heavy attacks and pushes while bleeding it out.
Key features:
- Heavy reliance on heavy attacks: increased damage, speed and incoming damage reduction when using heavy attacks, use light attacks only to build toughness on single target thanks to confident strike (which can trigger also while bashing hordes with heavy attacks, btw).
- Brutal Momentum (infinite cleave on Headshot kill) should pair up with Furious (the more enemies you hit with an attack, the more damage will be dealt on your next attack).
- Damage buffs for allies thanks to "Soften them up" and "Valuable distraction": also note that when using your ability "Loyal Protector", you are also triggering "Get Stuck In" to give some breathing room to your friendlies
- Multiple features on your coherency aura: +50% size, ~70% toughness regen (lynchpin and stay close), 5% ability regen on elite kill (yours or by friendly)
Things you can change:
- Bombs away / Slam: you can swap "Frag Bomb" for "Bombs Away" for better single target damage while keeping a bit of AoE "oh kark panic boom", but I prefer the biggest boom for when there is so much stuff on your screen that you can't possibly taunt everything. You could also swap "Towering Presence" for "Slam" if you plan to stick with your allies all the time and never push alone. If you feel like it, you can then proceed to remove the bottom right "toughness reduction" and get something else such as "Unstoppable" or "Payback time", but I don't think it improves the build that much, it mostly depends on how much damage you take.
- Your Ranged weapon: I'm still trying out some weapons, but the Gorgonum Stubber seems to be the most reliable without any particular blessings. Any ranged weapon that can quickly deal with unchecked special works fine (e.g. granadier gauntlet, rumbler), any ranged weapon that can also deal with bosses is better.
- Curios: IMHO you should mostly focus on total toughness, toughness regeneration and gunner resistance, but anything related to defense (stamina, block cost reduction, corruption resistance for grim farming etc.) are also fine.
Additional notes:
- Slab Shield Stats priorities
- Crowd Control: increases attack speed (which in turns means more damage and apply stagger more often) and stagger power
- Defenses: increases dodge distance and push cost. You will be surprised how much it will be easy to zig zag between hordes to help friendlies with this stat maxed
- Damage: straightforward, IMHO almost at the same level of importance of penetration despite the low increment. Don't expect to deal much more damage with max damage stat.
- Penetration: damage vs carapace and flak. Not extremely important, but nice to have. It should also apply to bleed damage, but I never bothered verifying it.
- Cleave Damage: nice to have, but IMHO the increment is so low, it doesn't matter very much. When horde clearing, anything that won't be outright killed by your shield bash will be killed by bleed, that's why it's not that important.
