Paul got a massive glow up this patch and this is what I have been running. Unfortunately I cant fit No Hurting Friends! into the build without some big sacrifices. No Hurting Friends! did get a nerf and a bugfix, it no longer procs on anyone anywhere regardless of coherency so its uptime is lower than before. I dont think it is the end of the world to skip it now, but it would be really nice to have (I just cant find 2 points in this build).
Fire Away now works with paul, when ogryn got reworked I was really disappointed to see it did not work but now it does! Power Surge procs the burn twice, for 4 stacks on epicenter, as well as fully stacking skullcrusher instantly. For those who dont know, Skullcrusher applies +40% damage on the first hit and another 40% on the second hit to an already staggered enemy. It is one of the strongest blessings in the game, right up next to uncanny strike. Power Surge allows you to put full stacks of it in a large aoe.
The new strikedown heavy on paul does big damage and can be looped with L-L-H repeating, or accessed after special activation. If you special then sprint and heavy you will get a sideways swipe instead.
Pauls looping L3 and L4 have been buffed to have higher attack speed after the first cycle. They are perfect for mulching hordes and Frenzied Blows pairs excellently with them. You can also take down captain shields very quickly by spamming lights. The activated heavy will also chunk a captain pretty hard, but if you have something like a branx/folding shovel ogryn or a thunder hammer zealot you should let them get the hit in.
I find that grenade gauntlet is an excellent pairing, it works surprisingly well with Fire Away. The GG special can be very helpful when your paul special is on cooldown and the game throws 12 bulwarks in your face. Use it into dense mixed hordes when you need to make space, everything will get debuffed by Shattering Impact which increases the damage of the burn that is also applied. Other than that this is the perfect tool for killing specialists and sometimes gunners if needed. This build would probably be good with rumbler too if thats more your speed.
Bigger Box of Hurt will apply stacks of burn on each explosion, so it will cap 8 burn stacks on every enemy. The burn helps it to actually kill enemies, without it the grenade is not very lethal. It is perfect for pulling off a revive or making space in tight situations. Part of why I chose GG over rumbler is so I could still take Bigger Box of Hurt , I find that with rumbler I really need to take Big Friendly Rock so I am not completely helpless to far away snipers/bombers.
