Talent Tree
Description
Changes from 1.0
- Death of covering fire, my beloved (its not practical)
- Additional safety in Confirmed Kill AND Out for Blood
- No longer progressing down MMF tree (3 talents saved)
Death to Marksman's Focus tree
It is my strong opinion that going down the MMF tree is a complete waste. For 3 talent points progression you get +25% ammo pickup on maps, +30% Weakspot damage, and +10% ranged damage. Spending these points elsewhere, you can instead get +25% to all damage (Skirmisher ), Veteran's best brawl talent (Exploit Weakness ), and a superb team defense skill Born Leader . One tapping specials is not worth the talent spend when its such a small part of what you do. Bolt pistol also staggers every special leaving them disabled and freely open for your foaming at the mouth zealot/arbitrator or a follow up bistol shot.
Death to Agile Engagement and Covering Fire
Agile Engagement in my opinion is one of the most fun talents to play around with Veteran. However, in current Havoc, it is not there when you need it. This is particularly true in Rotten Armor maps. It also dictates your play. When you want the +25% damage you have to find a vulnerable target AND spend ammo. This is just not a good proposition and impossible in some scenarios where you really need that extra damage.
Covering Fire returns are even worse as you personally get nothing and friendlies have to be nearby the target. If this ever comes from your own coherency, I could see it replacing One Motion easily.
I hate Skirmisher
Skirmisher is basically agile engagement, but better. It effects everything and is base damage instead of plus damage. In practice, the +25% damage is front-loaded in brawls. Sliding/sprinting in brawls can lead to death with Powersword so its difficult to keep up. However it does very well into boosting boss damage and gunner fights. I dislike it because sliding and sprinting in brawls feels stupid. I wish it refreshed on dodge. Moving on....
Focus Target
Focus Target! is in my opinion the absolute strongest option for Veteran. It provides up to 30% bonus damage to bosses for your entire team, as well as 5-30% damage on individual crushers or other targets. Notably you can feel its impact when trying to eliminate ranged Reapers or Gunners. This is before even getting into the near constant rolling +15% damage for your entire team from Redirect Fire! .
However, Focus Target is all predicated on you being willing to routinely and smartly ping targets. I have my ping rebound to C for ease of use. If you do not want to ping targets, this build is not for you.
Krak Grenades
Be very thoughtful with Krak Grenade usage. We are not chasing scoreboard, we are trying to win. Every time you throw one at three grenades left, you should ask yourself some questions:
- Is there a high risk someone on my team will DIE if I do not throw this Krak Grenade ?
- Have we already committed resources that trivialize this engagement?
- How much time is left on Demolition Stockpile ?
- Is there a high quantity of Elites or Specialist my teammates will kill soon that could activate Demolition Team ?
Using Kraks on Reaper is STRONGLY suggested. Your bolt pistol is very weak into them with no MMF points or +Unyielding. I personally would not suggest using Krak Grenade on Twins unless the situation is dire. Tracking to twins is inconsistent
