MY ONLY INFERNO(PURGATUS) STAFF BUILD:
No one argues the damage potential of Inferno.. it's a high damage staff.. but it lacks so many things that stop it from being good.. This build is an all rounder Inferno build.. you can bring this into aurics, havoc.. anywhere.. but I just hate inferno.. I don't think the staff is overall good. it lacks range.. and in my opinion.. a Psyker's main job is free, high damage range picking and utility.. both of which inferno builds don't offer much of.. the only strength of inferno.. is it's ability to kill chaff/thick hordes really fast.. something of which should not be necessary on a good team.. you can specialize in all sorts of ways.. but those are your tow main jobs.. all my builds perform dps at a level that should be expected of Psyker..
In my opinion.. this is the only way Inferno staff should be built.. assail spam saved for anti range(right click for snipers/specials etc and debuff with staff as much as possible).. the shields are for gaining distance on groups of enemies.. generally if you have the skill.. recommend the wall shields.. you get two charges which helps you rush enemies easily.. bubble for havoc obviously.. going for brain rupture/smite sounds good but it will leave you overall unrounded in some way..
It is paramount that you get good with debuffing your heavy targets with primary and then using double poke combo'ing with the mark 4.. double push down vs crushers to control them(force swords have exceptional control.. hence the stam regen in the build).. after heavy targets are debuffed.. keep poking.. pushing and if they get out of that.. force charged attack to stun/heavy damage crushers etc.. maulers.. just push/poke/debuff to safely dispatch them.. the compilation of debuffs will kill them VERY fast.. force sword usage in this build gives you a lot of safety vs hard targets because of it's exceptional control.
