Description
THE BRUTE is a melee-focused build which combines the Loyal Protector ability's invaluable CC and threat generation with the Heavy Hitter keystone, bringing control, utility and decent damage to any team composition.
RECOMMENDED WEAPONS:
Melee: Bully Clubs, Pickaxes, Shovels, Knives
Ranged: Rumbler, Grenade Gauntlet, Kickback
This variant of The Brute opts for the Bully Club Mk I with Skullcrusher & Haymaker blessings. Skullcrusher is a high value blessing, providin a significant team damage boost on staggered enemies (which also applies to DOTs). Haymaker is an interesting blessing - and a personal favourite of mine - giving our heavy attacks a 20% chance to insta-kill human-sized enemies. This, HAPPILY, includes mutants :> Haymaker boosts our clear and rolls the dice for possible one-shots on most of the enemies we hit. Super valuable on high DR enemies (due to e.g. stimms, pox gas etc.) and always satisfying.
BLITZ: BIG FRIENDLY ROCK
Rock is our on demand mutie-deletion tool and dopamine generator. Maybe the most satisfying blitz ability in the game. Luv me rocks.
ABILITY: LOYAL PROTECTOR (TAUNT)
Taunt provides on-demand CC and allows us to peel for teammates through threat generation as enemies are forced to attack us for 15s. An absolute game-changing ability when used well, buying much needed breathing space for teammate during intense engagements.
We take No Pain for the toughness generation and Go Again for the CDR boost so that we can Taunt faster and more frequently throughout the game.
Tip: Taunt is a powerful ability that can help relieve pressure from the team at the expense of our personal safety. Our positioning is now paramount as we become the focus for all nearby enemies and can heavily influence the flow of the fight (for good or ill).
KEYSTONE: HEAVY HITTER (HH)
HH is in my view, the standout Ogryn keystone providing +24% melee damage when at max stacks (8) and our choice of additional cleave or impact. What we take is largely driven by our weapon. As a general rule of thumb: Blunt? Cleave. Knife? Impact. I'd encourage you to try both and use what feels best for you.
Tip: The Don't Feel A Thing sub node gives +10% TDR with high uptime. Worth considering if you're looking to add additional defense.
ALTERNATE TALENTS:
This talent tree is 30/30 and is my preferred way of running this build.
To free up talent point(s), I'd suggest dropping: No Pushover / Beat Them Back.
CURIOS:
The curios listed above are my preference for this build however this is based on how I like to play.
Use whatever best fits your playstyle however I find the most value in the set ups below, YMMV:
2 x Toughness / 1 x Stamina
2 x Toughness / 1 x HP
3 x Toughness
(Minor node priority picks are +toughness / +gunner res / +revive speed / +stamina regen).
